I'm more interested in seeing the In Memoriam segment and who gets snubbed this year.

I'm either going for "The Artist" or "The Help".

As usual all the big Blockbusters are getting snubbed. :( I won't be watching it, with nothing to root for, I have better things to do.

Looking at the Nominees, I see one of them (The Artist) is A BLACK AND WHITE SILENT MOVIE! Holy Retro Hollywood Batman!

How can a box-office bomb win the Best Picture Academy Award? $83 million against a $150-170 million budget? Why was Hugo a massive failure at the box office?

Haven't there been some films that were box office failures, but were nominated for an Oscar?

Mark my words, if The Artist wins big at the Awards, I would not be surprised if I see an ad for another kind of film that hasn't been seen in theaters for at least 60 years. The Ads in the paper (and at the Theatre) will read "A (Name of Studio) Serial in X Chapters"! Hey, I wouldn't mind if Hollywood goes "Old School", but this is taking things to an extreme!  :rotflmao: :brent

Yeah, how much $ a film makes at the box-office is not a factor in how the OSCARS are given.

Unless a film has a really huge budget, like $150 million. Box office failures do not deserve to win an Oscar.

I disagree. You're entitled to your opinion though.

^^That's sad, but it's true. Maybe they should have extended Hugo's theatrical run so it can gross back its budget.

Usually once a film is nominated for awards they are rereleased in theatres (if they're not already on DVD).

Oh, and by the way, if only box office smashes won Oscars, THE WIZARD OF OZ wouldn't have been nominated for anything back in 1939, CLEOPATRA in 1963, and 2008's Best Picture winner THE HURT LOCKER.

Seems like I didn't miss much by purposely not watching the Academy Awards this year.
