Have you noticed on ABC Family and The Hallmark Channel all these Christmas movies? Where did they all come from? I dont remember seeing this many Christmas movies 10 yrs. ago or 15 yrs. ago. It was the usual ones, Its A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, A White Christmas etc. but thats it. Now there all over the place and there so interchangeable now. I mean they all blend together now.

I dunno...

There's some Christmas Films that you won't be seeing is Marlo Thomas' "It Happened One Christmas" which is a remake of "It's a Wonderful Life". I only saw a few minutes of it and I didn't like it...it was a watered-down version of "It's a Wonderful Life".ohno:

My favorite Christmas movie is "Scrooge"(1970) starring Albert Finney. I rarely see it on TV anymore. I'm glad that I have the dvd! Another one is "House Without A Christmas Tree"(1974) which used to air every year through the '70's. I have that one on dvd also thank goodness!:cc:

and last year one of our local stations showed it, but of course it wasn't shown in widescreen and was loaded with commercials so it was no good and I didn't watch it. A shame because I've always liked it, too.

And TCM has showed it sometimes.

No doubt the movie was cut also. I remember watching it on tv years ago and the entire Hell scene was removed. I never knew that was in the movie until I bought it on video! That is such a crucial part of the movie. Had to make room for all of those really important commercials!

no, the Hell scene was in there. Still though, that's why TCM is the best movie channel!

I'd like to see some channel show Christmas Eve, a 1986 TV-movie with Loretta Young.

You know I havent seen The Bells of St. Mary on or A Very Brady Christmas. As cheezy as the Brady X-Mas is, its still about Christmas.

I was going to post a new thread with this exact question. I forgot that I actually posted this question last year. It seems like its gotten worse. Hallmark Channel is the worst. They overexpose it and its sickening. They take off I Love Lucy in the morning for Christmas movies, yet leave REPEATS of Marie and Home and Family. Does that make any sense to you?

Yes I did notice many xmas movies. In fact I had a flyer with my newspaper a few weeks ago that listed movies that were to be shown. 2/3rd of them I hadn't heard of and many were made the last 10 years.

I love Christmas movies whether new or classic so I have no problem with the abundance. However i dont have cable so I've only watched what I can find online this year

These recent cable Christmas movies are generally awful, imho. Bizarre plots and poor scripts.

I always liked One Magic Christmas, a 1985 movie about a supermarket cashier experiencing hardship during the holidays. I never see that aired, or Santa Claus: The Movie. I know that one wasn't well-liked but I enjoyed it. I haven't even seen Scrooged and that used to play on TV all the time.

Many of these new Christmas movies are similar in plot and the actors and actresses can be interchangeable.

We have the usual fare in England and the Yuletide diet seldom varies. If you do find yourself in front of a television set the entertainment starts with Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" followed by "The Vikings" where both Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis fall in love with Janet Leigh, whilst in real life his son is sunbathing in Majorca with Catherine Zeta-Jones,then there's "Gone With The Wind" and Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music". In the afternoon there's one of those ghastly adaptations of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol"-I haven't worked out which version is worst though I suppose Robert Zemeckis deserves some credit for striving for authenticity over Kelsey Grammer's all too familiar Disney interpretation. If you haven't nodded off by then we have Tom Hanks' slow-moving sentimentality in "Sleepless in Seattle" to transport you into Boxing Day and leave the oblivion of what Christmas really is about behind.
