The Love Boat and Fantasy Island are two shows from the 70s that I really hated. I could not watch the show today, although I did watch it in the 70s mostly because there were very few entertainment choices back then, but now with cable television and satellite television, a viewer has a lot more choices. If that same show came out today, it probably would not last a full season, before being canceled due to poor ratings. But again this is only my opinion.
Throughout the many years that I've been a fan of The Love Boat, I've found that lots of people can't stand the show, and I can accept that...
I've been laughed at, ridiculed and made fun of because of my affection for a harmless, IMO, television show. That hasn't stopped me from watching it though...to each their own.
Just thought I'd share...

For me, Love Boat is one of those shows that I liked as a kid but grew out of. It was great in the 70's and then lost it's appeal, especially, in the early 80's, when MTV came out.

 there wasn't too many choices back then? is that what you're saying? let me inform you that "The Love Boat" ran from 1977-1986 and was a Top-30 hit from 1978 through 1984 making such positions on the charts: #14, 1978; #17, 1979; #23, 1980; #5, 1981; #14, 1982; #9, 1983; and #17, 1984. people had a choice back then too and millions chose "Love Boat". it's peak year was 1981 when it held 24.3 million viewers! the #1 show was "Dallas". write back again and tell all of us what was so wrong with the show besides you saying that you didn't like it. what made you not like it? i see it as harmless escapist TV much the way the people of today see "Survivor" or "Big Brother".
