Dwayne Hickman did his own singing. Producers wanted to make him a recording star back then and they used songs from his album on the show. He has been quoted as saying he didn't like singing and wasn't good at it, so they had to do several recordings and piece them together in order for it sound remotely good. I don't think it sounds bad on the show though.

I'm not sure about Sheila James. The singing sounds like her voice to me, but who knows?

Regarding Sheila: It is possible. She did guest start on Petticoat Junction during season one as "Sheila" and was in the female Beatle version group "The Lady Bugs". I think some of the other cast members that were in the group (mainly Pat Woodell) used their voices. They were also featured on the "Ed Sullivan Show" as the opening act for the Beatles if I'm not mistaken. It could have been another episode but they were definitely on there singing their version of "I saw her standing there" but changed "her" to "him".

LOL! I love that episode of Petticoat Junction. I especially love the part at the end when her character (I think her name is Sally) has to leave the group because her father won't let her sing with them anymore, and so Uncle Joe takes her place! Ha! My 14 year old loves that episode too; she's watched it on DVD about 100 times! I know they were on Ed Sullivan too. So, yeah, maybe they did use her real voice on Dobie. Like I said previously, it sounds like her to me. :)
