View Full Version : Do You Think '2 Broke Girls' Suffers From Ethnic & Racial Stereotyping?!?

It’s only been on for a few weeks, but already 2 Broke Girls has drawn criticism for its racial and ethnic stereotyping. The worst caricature, in our opinion, is Oleg, the Russian cook who exists purely to sexually harass waitresses. He has contributed nothing else to the show so far — and his jibes aren’t even funny. Although we haven’t entirely given up on the show yet, we cringe the moment we see him enter a scene.

This isn't related to 2 Broke Girls, but how can they complain about sexism in Pan Am? The show takes place in the 1960's. Of course there's going to be sexism. What are they supposed to do, just pretend it didn't exist? As for the stereotyping in 2 Broke Girls, I would say the jokes are no different than what a stand up comedian might use in their act or what you might see in a skit on SNL. It's not supposed to be taken seriously, as if the two girls actually are racists. They're just poking fun at these stereotypes and the little quirks found in all of us.

I agree about that. The 1960's were what they were. TV shouldn't shy away from that.
