If you watch tv shows originally filmed for regular tv sets(and that's most tv shows) or in other words not high defintion, the picture is not nearly as good on a High defintion Television.I had to get an HDTV because one of our tv sets broke down again. You're not missing anything by not having an HDTV. What good is a tv if it the picture quality on most shows, and even many movies too is going to be inferior.Remember most tv shows were NOT filmed in high defintion.I guess the main reason I'm posting this is if you have regular tv sets,HOLD ON TO THEM!

I disagree. :argue: have a 36-inch HDTV that I purchased on "The National Day of Insanity" in 2007. Most of the DVDs I play look better on it than the old 20-Inch TV I used to have. The one exception are some of the "Shovelware" PD Sets I've obtained, along with those "Alternative" DVDs from various Trading Sites such as ioffer, but my set has a small-screen mode I euphamisticlly call the "Mill Creek Mode". If I find myself watching a low-quality Disk I switch over to the smaller screen and continue to watch. :D

From what I understand DVDs look pretty good on an HDTVs.However if you don't use a DVD and just view an older show from a tv station, that's where the probelems are.

I agree on that point. All the Advertising they ram down your throat doesn't help either! :angryfire

One problem also is when you view older tv shows on one of these new flatscreens you notice alot of flaws in the picture, and that also makes the picture look worse. On a regular tv you do not see this,so the picture and colors looks better,or maybe a better decription would be more natural.

The older TV Sets had curved edges, so a portion of the screen was blocked. When you watch older shows on the newer sets you sometimes see things that were blocked before, such as Filming Equipment. On one episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea the Seaview surfaces in what's supposed to be the middle of the Ocean, and you see a Catwalk above the Submarine!
