Last post for awhile, I promise.
Have you ever watched the show and thought, "If only they had..."
I look back and wish they had used more story arcs, instead of doing the weekly bad guy thing. But I understand that was just the way they did it back then.
The thing that drives me absolutely insane - letting Althea's character go because Rollins got booted off the show. If O'Connor wanted to do a risky mixed race relationship, Bubba and Althea would have been a far better choice. Rumor has it that AMJ left because she was bored. Can you imagine Althea getting fed up with something Virgil was up to (a good way to write him off) and her starting to chase a very hesitant Bubba. She was just so in-your-face and honest.
Far better than watching an old guy make the moves on a younger woman in a relationship that had no sparks at all whatsoever.

Yeah I thought that the Tibbs' divorce was a lame story line. After all, their relationship was always presented as very loving and respectful. And with the twins so young I found it very unlikely. The writer's/O'Connor could have done better!. And yes a Bubba/Althea relationship would have been interesting but I imagine that with that plot line already having been done that it probably wouldn't have worked again . I really didn't enjoy that last season of Heat mainly because of the Tibbs' absence. It left a big hole .:(

Yeah, the "weekly bad guy" thing was not believable. It started making Sparta, MS as full of crooks and criminals as Cabot Cove ("Murder She Wrote")!

I wish they'd have kept Lois Nettleton(Joanne). I really liked her character! :)

I liked Joanne too! I thought there were a lot more sparks between her and Gillespie than with DeLong.
It's been years...
She confessed to having been a prostitute and then left town? Was that it?
I think that makes her even better.

I agree that the Joanne character should have stuck around. Althea was just annoying. The writers had to stretch the plots to get her involved in the show. What exactly was her job at the school? Counselor, teacher, volleyball coach, the music teacher's boss (in the rape episode), community liason, social worker; Althea could certainly do it all.

I wish they had provided an ending for the Sweet character. He just left with no explanation. Enjoying the reruns.
