"Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner was asked whether he believes the new broadcast dramas "Pan Am" and "The Playboy Club" -- both set in the 1960s -- are ripping off his AMC show, reports New York Magazine's Joe Adalian.

"Define ripping something off. I don't own the period. I see the whole experience as a vindication," Weiner said during Entertainment Weekly's annual pre-Emmys party, the story says. "It's a thrill that these same people now are seeing something commercial in it. I wish them the best."

Both Playboy Club and Pan Am clearly, are attempts at appealing to the...shall we say...less-attentive, mainstream audiences, without the edge, wit or je ne sais qua of Mad Men.

And Eddie Cibrian ain't no Jon Hamm, for DAMN sure!!
