Golden Globe winner and four-time Emmy nominee Michael C. Hall is in negotiations for a new (and more lucrative) deal to continue on "Dexter".

Deadline reports that Hall’s previous contract expires after the Showtime series’ upcoming sixth season, which premieres on October 2.

It’s not known how many more seasons are being considered, but Hall is apparently seeking a considerable salary raise after working under his original contract for the past six seasons.

Hall was named a co-executive producer on the show after season two, and then was promoted to executive producer in season four.

"Dexter" Future Uncertain As Michael C. Hall, Showtime Hit Contract Stalemate

The future of "Dexter" is in jeopardy.

According to Deadline, Showtime's long-running serial killer drama may come to a close all because of money.

Contract talks between the network and series star Michael C. Hall reportedly broken down on the same day as the strong "Dexter" Season 6 premiere ratings posted.

With repeat airings included, the Season 6 premiere was watched by about a total of 2.8 million viewers. It was the highest season opener for the network in 14 years.

Negotiations between Hall and Showtime have been ongoing, but the talks are rumored to have broken down over the $4 million gap in new salary deal.

Hall's team is asking for $24 million for two more seasons of "Dexter" while Showtime is offering $20 million for two additional years. The contract dispute won't affect Season 6.

As an alternative, there's an option for Hall to do one more season as opposed to two.
