View Full Version : Will Retro TV make it?

I was thinking about this. Retro TV is losing some of there affiliates to ME-TV. Obviously, based on the programs that they show ME-TV is in front, followed by Antenna TV and Retro TV is a distant third. My point is the way they are going with the lack of programming that they have and not having strong affiliates, do you think Retro TV will make it?
If I could change RTV to make is somewhat successful, I obviously would add tv shows. Off the top of my head the shows I would add:
Kojak
Cagney and Lacey
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Mayberry R.F.D.
Silver Spoons
Empty Nest
Bosom Buddies
The Addams Family
The Munsters
Now the odds of this happening are slim and none. They probably wont add any of the shows I mentioned or add any shows at all but I think they need to do this to survive. They better try something fast before its too late.

They were airing Kojak, along with Dragnet, Adam-12, Emergency, Ironside, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and Night Gallery. Now that we finally get RTV on cable in Louisville, KY they don't show any of those any more. Their signal over the air is so pathetic I can't pick it up with an antenna. I don't really care for much of their programming now save for Route 66 and The Bill Cosby Show. We don't yet get MeTV here.

I'll put it this way,I'd love if the affiliate here that carries RTV,replaced it with Me tv.

There doesnt seem to be an end in site. I mean it seems like they are not adding any shows. I wonder how RTV will survive this? If, if RTV goes under I would think those affiliates would go to ME-TV.

If you look at the ME-TV News Thread, you will see that ME-TV is adding some affiliates while dropping RTV. How come RTV started out with such promise and now looks like its on its last legs?
Poor management. TONSSSSS of stations are dropping RTV next month.

Would you happen to know which stations are dropping RTV? I say that because I've looked on the ME-TV news thread and nothing if ME-TV is coming to Connecticut. I hope it does come to Connecticut soon.
Also, what a shame about RTV. Like you said, poor management. I really hope RTV doesnt go under. No channel should ever go under. Also, lets not forget all those people who will lose there jobs as well

What tV shows do they air now?

Another problem with RTV is because of poor management or whatever reason, they seem to let the stations that carry them put in all types of their own of garbage programs like stupid talk shows and fashion shows etc.Not to mention all the paid programming they have. Me-tv and Antenna tv do not do that. So basically RTV is a third class classic tv station. The best situation of course would be for everyone to be able to get Me tv, Antenna tv and also RTV,but just to compliment the other two clearly superior stations.

I had been trying to get Rtv for the last few years but the signal was too weak. Now, most of their shows are on My family tv, which I can pick up, so I don't worry about Rtv anymore.

From what I understand My Family TV is very similair to RTV.Not sure if they are owned by the same company or not.

Now with Andy Griffith, Leave it to Beaver and Gunsmoke going off the air with TV Land, I wonder if RTV can get those 3 shows? I think, that would be a shot in the arm for RTV.

mets82

Not anymore. When RTV had Kojak and all those other shows, Leave it to Beaver was one of them. When those shows left, Leave it to Beaver went with it. Also, Leave it to Beaver aired on my RTV station on Sundays at 5pm.

You know RTV is so messed up, Mac Kelly, The Creator-Producer-Star of "Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive in" had to get a "day job" delivering furniture as there's not enough stations airing RTV to generate revenue from the ads?

Whenever they start showing both hammer strikes at the end of "Dragnet" again, instead of only one, that would be an improvement. How much of one, who knows?
I hope this will serve as a lesson to the re-run "networks" that you can't mutilate shows here like they do on cable. If they can't follow that, then give TV stations, individually, the right to re-run shows like they have before.
In the case of our area, in addition to one station already running RTV on one of its channels, another station just opened up a Me-TV affiliate. So we can get both. My first look at Me-TV consisted of sitting through 2 commercials which had to be over a minute long each, before finally going into "Cannon: Act III". So I wonder just how complete the shows here are?

I think part of the problem is they never hit many major cities, like Chicago. Not getting many major cities is a problem for all stations. Being that both Antenna Tv and Me-TV are both subchannels of stations here I doubt we'll ever get Retro now.

Gee I am sorry to hear this about Retro Tv. Currently I am watching Route 66 which I haven't seen since it first aired in the 1960's. Another station which has old tv shows is THIS tv but the old shows air 5am. Patty Duke, Sea Hunt, Mr Ed and another 1/2 hr show I can't remember.

Probably "Highway Patrol" as I dvr'd all four seasons then transferred them to dvd a while back. RTV only has two shows I care for now that they lost the Universal contract. I watch Route 66 & The Bill Cosby Show. I don't get MeTV but wish I did. I like some of the shows on AntennaTV as well.

I'm still wondering how RTV is doing because they havent changed there lineup in a while. I mean is there any news at all? New affiliates? New shows? If they go under, it would be a shame.

This package could have been on RTV or PBJ but with Neal Ardman out of Luken instead it goes to Me-TV and THISTV.

Makes you wonder about the rest of the Classic Media library that makes up most of the PBJ line-up.

I hope they didn't fork out too much $$$ for this low-grade entertainment. These haven't aired in years for good reason. The only thing of interest in the whole package is He-Man & She-Ra and possibly Fat Albert. Nobody is going to watch these.
I don't feel sorry for RTV. They got themselves in to this situation by not keeping the programming fresh and not acquiring new libraries in addition to the NBCU one they had. The networks with the better programming won, simple as that. No new affiliates, actually they keep losing them...if you can sign with Me-TV or Antenna TV, why sign with a dying network like RTV? They added the mid-2000s game show Merv Griffin's Crosswords last month, I believe.

I made a Suggestion on AntennaTV Facbook page yesterday about them picking up all 12 season of Lassie series. and they reply and said they would add Lassie series to it WISH List.
Since RTV and My Family TV is only showing the Jeff's Collie Series and half of Timmy and Lassie series.

I've had RTV since December 2008 and I've never really watched it. Nothing there I really like. I'm glad my RTV channel is changing to MeTV in November.

RTV has spotty reception in the Nashville area, I guess because of their 300 watt signal. I did get it, but not right now. I do get This TV and am not all that thrilled. They show some good movies...sometimes, and show a lot of low budget snoozers, like the animated Christmas package they plan to show this year. The few classic programs they do show start at 4am. No program guide. Seems like they could make this station a lot better.

ThisTV can be hit or miss. I like the fact they actually promote their movies & upcoming events. But yeah a lot of their movies are terribly boring never-heard-ofs. Even the brief descriptions I see in the channel guide are boring. I remember once one of the descriptions merely read "A man meets a woman in the country." Wow. That should reel in the viewers...
They have 50s/60s horror and sci-fi gems that I watch from time to time. The grade A productions they do air appear in the schedule more frequently like their Marilyn Monroe movies. I supposed if I had the same film library for a station I'd do the same thing. It's just funny how 95% is low-end crap nobody has heard of while sister station MeTV is virtually ALL popular critically acclaimed material.

If its losing stations thats never a good thing. Hopefully the trend will change, Where I live we do not receive this station but I have alternatives, via internet TV.
I am currently watching Dallas streaming from an internet channel I get which is very cool.

Anything new on RTV? Any news? Are they gaining any stations or losing stations? It would be a shame to lose RTV because I dont like when any station goes out of business.

I think they are still losing stations.I no longer can pick it up.What is rediculous is here they did not replace it with something like Me-tv.Instead they replaced it with some nonsense station that may attract 3 viewers.

Luken owns 3 other channels, all of which appear to be more focused than RTV. Their careless attitude towards RTV has basically doomed it. Even if the channel closes shop it means little to both the owners and viewers at this point in time.

I have been reading from the blogs that WSAH will start showing ME-TV. Right now, its RTV but Im assuming they will switch to ME-TV soon. I really dont like seeing any station go out of business and I think thats whats going happen. If I was running RTV and needed a very fast, quick plan to help RTV, I would try my hardest to get acquire some "name" shows. My 3 Sons, Addams Family, The Munsters, Kojak, ALF etc. Even if I could acquire the 5 I just mentioned I would make them the anchors of RTV, which means I would make the 5 shows I mentioned the bookends of the network and sandwich all the other shows they have on now. I would try that to build an audience because it could be the end of RTV which would be a shame.

I am looking forward to Me-TV being on WSAH, as I live in CT also, in an area where the station is on my cable line-up. I heard its going to launch around January 2 or 4, although that is tentative. The only drawback is that this is a low-budget station and it will probably be half Me-TV and half infomercials because WSAH needs the money that infomercials produce. Still, half a schedule is better than none.

RTV in my area is gone it has been replaced with MeTv. But the channel goes off at 10pm at night and doesn't start again until maybe 9am or 10am not sure about the time. Channel 20 that MeTv airs on in Massachusetts is still showing paid programming on it. But I also have MeTv out of New Hampshire which goes all hours of the night which is great because I love watching the shows at that time of night.
