Ray Romano is reportedly in talks to appear in an episode of The Middle.

The role would see him reunited with former Everybody Loves Raymond co-star Patricia Heaton, who plays Frankie Heck on the ABC sitcom.

Heaton told TV Guide that Romano will likely play "someone from Frankie and Mike (Neil Flynn)'s past we'd see in flashback interfering with their honeymoon".

"If you have Ray, you want it to be organic and make sense, and this would," said the actress. "I think he'll have a blast!"

The Middle co-creator Eileen Heisler added that talks with Romano have been "promising" and confirmed that the actor would appear in the show's one-hour third season premiere, which begins shooting in August.

Heaton claimed in April that Romano appearing on The Middle could prove "too confusing".

"It would probably break some kind of time-space continuum," she joked.

Romano starred in CBS's Everybody Loves Raymond from 1996 to 2005 and currently appears on TNT series Men of a Certain Age. The comedian also made a guest appearance on the seventh season finale of NBC's The Office.

The Middle will return to ABC on Wednesdays at 8/7c in the fall.

I don know how to do the story, but it would be cool if Ray Ramano could play Ray Barone and somehow interact with the Heck family. What would be awesome if Ray and Debra could meet the Hecks somehow and Patricia Heaton played both Debra and Frankie.

Or at least Ray saying, "You look a little like my wife!" Or in the end, Frankie is distantly related to Debra. Midwestern gal and New Yawk woman aguing in the same show. Pat is the star right?

It should be fun to see them together again.

I would've figured they were glad to be rid of each other as characters and maybe as people too. They had chemistry but one side was so wimpy and the other was so hateful it was often painful to watch. And I liked the show overall, but the characters probably should have gotten divorced. It was no way to live.
The Middle I don't like at all.
This ain't like Rob and Laura getting back together. I'd rather see each of them work with other people, just to see if they can get along better and still play comedy. God they were a disfunctional couple. It might be fun if she played wimpy to him and he hated her. Otherwise, no...

I hate when shows do that. It's pandering and bordering on whorish.
