A staff developer at Tenafly’s elementary school district promised school children a Lady Gaga presentation through video and then allegedly used an impersonator, said school officials.
The staff developer reportedly told the students she became friends with Lady Gaga, who was born in New Jersey as Stefani Germanotta, when they were both interning at MTV.
The staff developer said Gaga planned to give the video talk to the third, fourth and fifth graders in all of the district’s elementary schools. But at the last minute, she said the singer was no longer available.
According to CBS New York, last Wednesday the teacher gathered students in the school library to have a video chat with Lady Gaga, and they received autographed pictures.
According to EW.com, Michael Ranaldi, a fourth grader attending Maugham Elementary, said he thought the presentation was strange because the woman he saw was wearing glasses and typing the answers to her questions supposedly because her microphone was disabled.
On Friday the school sent letters of apology home to parents and broke the news to heartbroken kids. School Superintendent Lynn Trager said, according to NorthJersey.com, “The staff developer also distributed photographs to our students with Lady Gaga’s purported signature.”
Trager said the female employee received permission for the presentation from administrators, who began investigating the authenticity of the presentation after a student questioned the autograph.
Trager said they are taking the matter very seriously and would take appropriate action.
