TBS Cancels "House of Payne", Green-Lights Third Tyler Perry Sitcom

"House of Payne", which has been on for seven seasons, has been canceled. The show has been on since 2006.

"Tyler Perry's series have been tremendously successful for TBS, helping establish the network as a prime destination for African-American viewers," Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TBS, TNT and TCM, said in a statement.

"Given such a remarkable track record, we're excited for the opportunity to expand our relationship with Tyler Perry and Debmar-Mercury with the new series 'For Better or Worse,'" he said.






TBS has ordered a third comedy from Tyler Perry, this one based on his Why Did I Get Married? films.

The show, "For Better or Worse", is set to star Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith as their movie characters Marcus and Angela. TBS has yet to announce the rest of the cast.

So far, 10 episodes have been ordered.



"Even though it will be sad to say goodbye to 'House of Payne,' I'm really looking forward to exploring new territory with 'For Better or Worse,'" Perry said in a statement.

"Working on 'House of Payne' taught me a lot about what it takes to make a successful television series and I'm looking forward to applying that experience to 'For Better or Worse.'"

Wait! Cancelled? I thought the show was ending due to Mr. Perry's decision. Some of the cast members have other projects going on.

This was an absolutely TERRIBLE show from the very beginning. I have rarely seen a situation comedy so consistently be unfunny and dull. The lead characters were insanely unlikable and the cast basically mailed in their lines. This show fully expected to prosper just on Tyler Perry's name, and for about an hour it did, but then millions of people had to admit that this poor piece of garbage belonged in the crapper. And this is from someone who has seen over 20 shows over a few seasons - desperately hoping it would somehow improve: which it never did. In fact, it got worst each episode.

I respectfully beg to differ. This was not the best show on air but it was must see tv for me. To me, the show got better. I tune in to watch each new episode that is airing on TBS every wednesday night. I love tunning in. Sorry you don't like it. But you know what? I respect your right for sure. And know this, if you every commit a crime or felony, you will be subject to watching all 200 someodd episodes of this show!!!!:lol:

I didn't know House Of Payne got cancelled but i'm glad TBS ordered more episodes and i noticed it got moved to Fridays at 9pm and 9:30pm. I've been watching it lately and i like the new episodes. I saw Bookman from Good Times tv show on last night's episode. The little troubled boy who moved in with the Payne's used to play on Tracy Morgan show. He got in a gang last night and he got out the gang because the Payne's gave him a choice of staying with the gang and moving out or staying with them and leaving the gang.

House Of Payne is a good show. Floyd gets on my nerves sometimes but i like the other characters. I was glad Keisha Knight Pulliam was added to the cast and she looks good. I want Allen Payne's wife. She is so hot. I'm surprised Tyler hasn't put her in his movies. I've seen commercials for Tyler's new show and i'm gonna check it out but i got a feeling it isn't gonna last as long as House Of Payne. Meet The Browns should be cancelled instead of House Of Payne.

Now, it was "Meet the Browns" that finished its run on TBS after 140 episodes. "For better or worse" completed a 10 episode run on TBS. IMO, I think that show has a very good chance for 90 more episodes to be ordered by TBS. "House of Payne" is currently airing with new episodes from the order TBS order back in late 2010. Mr. Perry (per Allen Payne) went into production with the 50 episode order in December 2010 and continued through 2011 with a possible break in between and then continued.

TBS was not going to renew the show for more eps and then Mr. Perry announced this would be the final season of the show. However, this past October or November, Mr. Perry posted on his facebook page, "Guess what? TBS ordered 42 more episode of HOP and we go into production beginning monday".

TBS is still airing episodes from its 50 episode order. The fresh 42 episode order has yet to be completed (10 episodes, more or less) and to air. I hope this helps.

How many seasons has House Of Payne had? I love the show and i watched last night's episodes. Last night's episode was sad when Calvin got shot and went to the hospital. If he survives, i got a feeling he's gonna be in a wheelchair and that's gonna suck because nobody likes being in a wheelchair. I see the guy who shot Calvin played on The Cosby Show as Malcolm Jamal Warner's friend. I don't know his real name and i also saw him in The Principal movie with James Belushi and Lou Gossett Jr. I know he was glad to have a reunion with Allen Payne and Keisha Knight Pulliam since they were also on The Cosby Show. Black on black crime needs to be stopped and i'm tired of blacks dying because of our ignorance and hatred towards each other. For Better Or For Worse show does suck and i wish it would get cancelled instead of House Of Payne. I only watched one episode of For Better Or For Worse and i didn't like it. I get tired of seeing Tasha Smith playing ghetto characters. I know Michael Jai White's character is tired of being with her LOL.

I loved For Better or Worse. Tasha is playing down the ghetto (IMO) on this show. She seems calmer instead of being loud mouthed all the time. I think House of Payne is in the ninth season if I'm not mistaken. It could be the eighth, though.

The little troubled boy, Dashawn Spears on House of Pain, is played by Bobb'e J. Thompson. He's a teenager now, but you probably wouldn't think so, because he's quite small for his age.

He also played the rambunciously outspoken Stanley in the Disney Channel sitcom, That's So Raven!. His character had the hots for Raven, always trying to go after her. He also made life a living hell for Cory (Kyle Massey). He's starred in at least over 2 dozen movies already. He also played a ruthless little bully boss in Human Giants.

One more-recent very special episode of House of Payne is when his character was a schoolyard bully, where he bullies, harasses, intimidates and beats up on a little boy to the point where the little boy almost commited suicide.

The little boy confronted him with the help of his dad. He told Dashwn just exactly how he felt about being the victim of bullying. He made up with Dashawn, and they both buried the hatchett, so to speak, and they became friends again.

It was a very moving episode. Dashawn was again on the verge of being asked by Ella to leave the Payne household. She had enough of Dashawn's bullying and obnoxious ways. He apoligized sincerely to the boy and to Ella and Curtis and promised that he wouldn't do it again. It was touching. Deshawn had started to cry!! At the end of the show, Bobb'e J. Thompson gave a short speech on bullying and the sad affects that it can have on its victims.

He's been very active in recent years. He's also a rapper / director. He's also the Youth Ambassador for AIDS, where he helps young teens to learn about the dangers of HIV and the AIDS virus!! Pretty impressive for a young teenager who has done a lot so far in his impressive acting career!! I hope that he keeps it up. He'll go quite far in his endeavors!! He's also a great role model for other young kids to follow!!! I like him. He's a very good actor!! I'm friends with him on Facebook.

And yes, he DID star in The Tracy Morgan Show. His character's name was Jimmie. He's been performing on the stage since he was only 5 years old, and he's also a rapper and director.

I think it is a very good show. hence the reason why it lasted so long. it has been given very high ratings from TV viewers nationwide. It will also run with perry's new show, For Better or Worst following it. :)

Yeah, sometimes, the old saying applies to some things; If it isn't broken, then don't fix it!!

I like Boob'e J Thompson and his character (Deshawn Spears).

He gets into trouble, but he doesn't really mean to. Peer pressure and being persuaded by gangbangers, as well as getting roughed up by gang members for not being with them and becoming a bully himself, are pretty much what Malik went through on the show.

Also, HIS mom is having psycological problems and he was trying to help her get through them during her visit at the Paynes to see him. So sad!! He was trying to be there for her, but he finally realised the he couldn't do it on his own.:)

It is supposed to be the last season, I"m not really sure.

Janine looks very sexy now, especially since she's been off drugs!! Boy, she was a wreck back then when she was on drugs!!

It doesn't seen that long, but it HAS.

I wrote the post before I saw the episode last night, leading up to where Malik said that he loves her, having fallen in love with the girl already before she met the family.

Was it with that strange acting girl, the one who was always talking about energy, along with moving and waving her hands and arms strangely?

I saw that episode just last night. I remember that he and his parents had words, and they all got into a bit of a heated argument over Malik's decision to marry her.

Malik got mad and said that he was going to marry her reguardless, saying that he's grown and old enough to make his own decisions. Then they both walked out of the house.

Jannie was upset with Malik because he wouldn't listen to them. Later, Ella calmy talks to Jannie, to try to cool her down, and tells her that Malik IS grown now, and that he has the right to make his own decisions. And yes, Ella DID say that Malik has their blessings.

Is THAT the girl who you're speaking of? I just watched that one last night, but I didn't see the one where Malik married her yet. I wonder if I have it on one of the later seasons on one of the sets of DVD's.

I think Malik is moving too fast and he might end up getting hurt emotionally, him and Jazmine having gone through pain, emotional suffering and anquish when their mom was strung out on crack cocaine. :confused:

I didn't think it would last. Malik is making hasty moves & decisions without giving them any long hard thought!!! Poor boy!

I remember the time when he and his best friend Kevin were surfing the Web looking for a girl to date, and Malik goes to answer the door, thinking that his "date" might be on the other side of the door. He opens it, only to find out that a pedophile has come-a-knocking. Turns out that Malik & Kevin were giving all of their personal info to a child molester instead of a girl!!

Malik got deathly frightened, trying to get the guy to go away!! But the guy just kept on trying to make out with him. That is until CJ came back to the house and knocked him out after Kevin ran to get some help.

If the show IS going to be canceled, I hope that it's a happy ending and not a sad one where someone dies!!

I remember one of Janine's friends, Blue, who used to do drugs with her had died. He got gravely ill and had asked Janine to pray for him. CJ wouldn't at first, but he did also.

They are ALL good.

I think Volume 4 is the best, because in THAT one, there's an ep titled; "Driving Me Crazy", where Calvin babysits with Miranda's cute but "deadly" 6-year-old nephew, Brandon (who is played by Nicholas Milton), who is nice and very friendly to everyone. Everyone except Calvin, that is.

He abuses, disrespects, mistreats, beats up on and bullys Calvin into doing things for him by threatening to smear Calvin's name to Miranda and giving him a bad rap, to get what he wants from him!! He even calls the police as a prank joke to report Calvin as a child abuser!! He has others fooled and adoring him, but he's actually a "wolf in sheeps' clothing"!

The little boy makes life a living hell for Calvin! |He's deathly afraid of the boy. So much so, that he never wants to babysit with him again!! :)

Earlier this year, I saw parts of a few episodes of this show in syndication here in Chicago and really liked what I did see, so for most of this year it's been on my for sure "To Buy" List! At one point I tried to get them at Best Buy, but they only had Vol 9 so I wanted to wait till I could get all of it at the same time. I finally DID buy all 9 volumes at the beginning of November! I haven't gotten to this show yet, but at least I have all the available volumes now :) There was a Vol 1-8 bundle on Amazon for just 80 bucks so it was like I'd be a fool to not buy it that way for that price. Volume 9 was less than 20 bucks so I threw it into the order. A lot of people have raved about the show so I look forward to seeing all the episodes in order. I'm confused though..Both on Amazon and on the page right here for this show's board it shows 9 volumes. Is Vol 10 out yet? I'd actually like to see ALL the episodes in order so if that's coming I can wait till then to start it..trust me I still have quite a few shows to get through yet urghhhh so I can definitely afford to wait if Vol 10 is coming.

The other big reason I really wanted to make sure to support these DVD releases is due to the show being shot in Atlanta, I've been through that area many times over the years and know it pretty well so I wanted to support the Atlanta/Georgia Media initiative :) It's a great idea that will hopefully give many promising actors and actresses from that state their big break.

Oh yes, there are still at least 2 or 3 more volumes yet to be released on DVD!!
