Well, since I'm a big movie buff, I can't wait for some of the event films that are going to be released over the next 12 months.(There's a load of them).
My top films that I want to see most:

1)"Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" No brainer. Gosh, what if it's even better than "Fellowship..."? I can only hope...

2)"Star Wars: Episode II, The Attack of the Clones" After just recieving news that N*SYNC will be appearing as extras in the film, my hopes for this film have diminished even lower. Please, George Lucas, don't screw up again!

3)"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" This better not suck also. While the first was a highly enjoyable, upon seeing "Fellowship of the Ring", I couldn't help but noticing what "Sorcerer's Stone" lacked. Hopefully, the second installment with be more fullfilling.

4)"Spiderman" Have you seen the trailer? This looks like to be the definition of cool. While I think Wes Bentley from "American Beauty" would of made a better Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire is a fine choice. I still can't get over that tralier!

5)"Black Hawk Down" A modern war epic directed by legend Ridley Scott starring awfully hot guys. Just to name a few: Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, ORLANDO BLOOM!
And what's great is that it only comes out in a couple of weeks.
I heard it's a good movie too. ;)

:D I'm a bit of a movie buff myself. Here's the ones I'm most looking forward to -

The Panic Room - cos it's directed by David Fincher, the genius responsible for bringing Fight Club to the big screen.

Death To Smoochy - cos I just gotta see Edward Norton dressed as a giant purple dinosaur!!!

Scooby Doo - cos I really enjoyed the live-action version of Josie and the Pussycats and I think (and hope) this will be much the same.

24 Hour Party People - I doubt you guys in America will ever see this one. It's an account of the infamous 'Madchester years' in Britain and the ledgendary Hacienda nightclub - the place to be in the late 80's/early 90's. Happy days!! :happyface

Ooooh, another David Fincher film coming out? A must-see, since besides Fight Club, he helmed Se7en. A movie in which still creeps the hell out of me. Love the ending.

Edward Norton in a dinosaur outfit?! That'll be something...

Scooby-Doo. Yeah, I was looking forward to it too until I found out who was picked out to play his human counterparts. Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred. Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne. And Matthew Lillard as Shaggy.
Freddie Prinze Jr. Bah. Sarah Michelle Gellar. Annoying in every role besides Buffy. And Matthew Lillard. Much more likeable than Freddie, but just a little bit. I don't know, maybe it'll surprise me...

24 Hour People: Wasn't that the whole dance house scene about ten years ago?

Orange County. Jack Black is awesome and I love Tenacious D. Plus I'm a Busom Buddy Tom Hanks fan and I want to see his son Collin. I've seen him on interviews and just recently on Jay Leno last night. He looks and talks just like his father. They should of made 'Big' the movie when his son got older to play him as a kid because the resemblance is amazing! But, the movie looks interesting and funny and not just one of those run of mill teen flicks.

Yeah, Fincher is, in my opinion, the best director around. The reason I mentioned 'Fight Club' is cos it's my second favorite movie of all time. 'Se7en' is a modern classic as well - it definately makes my top 10. There's no mistaking a Fincher movie - he has a very distinctive style.

I love Ed Norton - he's an amazing actor. Jack in 'Fight Club' is his best role so far (I don't think he'll ever top that ) but did you see him in 'American History X'? That's another one of my favorite movies.

I'll admit that the cast for 'Scooby Doo' isn't perfect - I can't stand Freddie Prinze Jr either - but it's not too bad. Sarah Michelle Geller doesn't bother me too much and Matthew Lillard is bearable. Like I said, I was really impressed with the 'Josie and the Pussycats' movie so I'm hoping 'Scooby Doo' will be just as entertaining. Although you always have to be careful when bringing old shows to the big screen cos so many people have opinions and ideas as to how it should be done. With a show as well-loved as 'Scooby Doo' there is a lot at stake.

Yeah - '24 Hour Party People' is all about the Madchester scene which unleashed bands like Happy Mondays, Stone Roses and Inspiral Carpets on the world. Should be good - I was a bit too young for that scene the first time around.

Another thing I'm looking forward too is the 'Lost Boys' sequel that's (rumoured to ) be getting made. I've heard some scary things though....like Ms. B. Spears in the lead role!!!!

Any news on the 'Goonies' sequel?

Yep, I've heard those scary things too. It's supposedly going to be "The Lost Girls" with Britney Spears being the head vampire. Horrible idea, and horrible casting. If they are going to do a sequel, have it at least stick to the original's spirit. I mean, I love that movie. Even with the buff longed haired Wagner wannabe that's singing on the boardwalk.
I sort of have hometown pride attached to the film(it was shot in Santa Cruz, which is rather close to where I live). Well, it's an hour drive, but I go there to the boardwalk all the time!

"Goonies 2" looks like it's shaping up. I haven't heard any real news about the whole thing. You can actually go read two pages of the script at www.thegoonies.com
Nice premise, true to character. You should check it out.

I am looking forward to:

Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers
Star Trek: Nemesis
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Spiderman (Cokies....haven't seen the trailer except for the one they played last summer with the WTC in it, that got pulled post 9/11. But even that was a pretty cool trailer, even though it was only like 30 seconds long.)
Star Wars 2: Attack of the Clones
Ice Age (I saw the trailer for this a long long time ago, and I don't really know anything about the movie other than I found the trailer to be highly amusing. It is a computer animated film, and I like animation. It can't compare to any of the big event films listed above, but if the trailer is any true indication, I think it has potential to be an enjoyable and entertaining film, and I'm sure it'll probably be a great family/kids film).

I guess that's really all I can list for now. I love movies and go to them frequently, but I don't really read about what's coming out much, so unless it is a huge event film or a planned sequal or something, I don't usually hear about it until I see the trailer for it.

As for Goonies 2, the only news I've heard about it is that they got the entire original cast to return.

And as for what you said Cokies about Harry Potter not seeming to be as good or whatever after you saw the LOTR movie....I dunno, I think it's almost comparing apples and oranges. Sure they both fall under the umbrella category of fantasy, but the similarity ends there. Additionally, Harry Potter is essentially for children, even though many adults read and enjoy the books. In my opinion, I don't think it is being fair to expect Harry Potter to be as mature or as epic as LOTR. Also, LOTR was the book that defined the genre, and that's pretty stiff competition for anyone, even Harry Potter, to stand up to. I thoroughly enjoyed both movies, and hope to catch them both again at the second run theatre. I think it's nicer to just enjoy each movie for what it is, and not get too worried about which movies are better than it. Just my opinion. But I guess I should ask this, and probably should have first off: what was it that you felt was lacking in Harry Potter after you saw LOTR?

Spiderman trailer: You can always download the new trailer in Quicktime at the Quicktime site. It's great eye-candy. But yes, that pre-September 11th trailer was pretty damn cool too. It's a shame they had to pull it, but I understand...

LOTR and Harry Potter are apples and oranges. When I came out of the theatre after seeing LOTR for the first time, I remember exclaiming, "They're totally different!". And I couldn't understand why the press continued to compare the two like they are on the same level. They aren't, for the reasons you stated.
But simply, on a objective film level, LOTR was an amazing film, better than Harry Potter. Mind you, I loved the Potter books, and I turned out to love the movie as well. Chris Columbus pulled it off pleasantly. Can't wait for the sequel.

LOTR defined the genre, and it's insane if you notice how many movies have ripped off Tolkien. (Willow, Legend, etc. All films that I love.)
Honestly, I always thought Harry Potter was more of a coming-of-age school novel. Just one special kid growing up in a strange world.

And I did enjoy the movie for what it was... Harry Potter, I mean. I had the advantage to becoming attached to the characters before seeing a second of film. That was one thing friends of mine who didn't read the books said that the film lacked. They didn't care about the characters as much as I did. That they weren't presented fully. I don't know, I still got a kick out of all of them. If there's one thing about HP that I love more than LOTR is the characters. They're so relatable.

With LOTR, I didn't have to read the books to get to know the characters. They're very likeable characters, and the story is so grand in scope, I was so interested in what was going to happen to them, and where their journey was going to lead them.

What did Harry Potter lack for me? I'd say charm. Of course it had some charm, but not the whimsical feeling that is abundant in JK Rowling's novels. Of course, Columbus and Steve Kloves(the screenwriter) and the producers can work on that for the sequels. Let's all hope...

Good point. You know, the one abundant feeling I had as I walked away from Harry Potter was that I felt the film was very fun and visually stunning, but that I wished I cared more about the characters! I'm glad to hear I am not the only one who felt that way. I thought the movie was missing something....something to let me know exactly why I should care about what happens to these kids. I mean, they were all likable, and cute as a button, but I just didn't care about them as much as the LOTR characters.

I guess maybe the filmmakers assumed most people had read the books and they simply over looked giving the characters more depth and development? Or perhaps they felt there wasn't time, as the movie is already 2.5+ hours as it is...pretty long for a movie children will be seeing....who knows.

I wonder, then, if I should try and read the Potter books before the next movie comes out. I was planning on reading them later, but perhaps I would enjoy the movies more if I'd read the books first. What do you think Cokies? I mean, you still thoroughly enjoyed the film, so it doesn't seem like I have anything to lose....

Exactly. The filmmakers relied too much on the fact that a lot of people have read the books and thought there would be an uproar about changes through the translation to the screen...(they DID have two "major" omitted scenes).
While I did care about the characters and I thought the child actors were very charming, I can understand where regular joes would get an "empty" feeling about the characters.
Of course, that's not entirely the movie's fault. The first book is very pleasant and simple, compared with the subsequent novels, which are complex and tend to "grow up" as Harry does.

You would have nothing to lose by reading the books before the second film comes out. At least read the first. That way, you can get insight on the happenings around Hogwarts that the film kinda skimmed over. It'll give you more of a sense and understanding of the environment, and how damn evil Voldemort really is. That's another thing about the movie, they didn't make Voldemort evil enough. They didn't instill the fear that the whole wizarding world felt when he was in power. He's like a Sauron, but in the wizarding world. And Snape, you'll find out why he has a grudge against Harry, something that the film totally ignored, which is important in the future episodes.
Well, anyway, yes, you should pick up at least the first. It's a great read. You won't be able to put it down...:)

Thanks for the input Cokies....I guess I'll have to start in on the Potter books. I had planned on reading Fellowship of the Ring...but it's not going anywhere...I'll just read that later. I'm looking forward to reading what was in the book but not the movie, especially that whole Snape thing.....I was kind of wondering about that....
