When A Series Ends, What Happens To......

The furniture and knick knacks from the set? Do they donate it to charity or just throw it all out? I read somewhere that Family Matters was going to do a 10th season, but at the last minute, they decided not to and the sets were destroyed.

I have read and heard different things about what happens to sets, furniture, wardrobe and other things once shows end. There have been several stories about creators, actors and crew members taking things from the sets or filming locations as souvenirs. Some production companies and networks do keep some furniture or set items in storage and later on some of that stuff gets donated to musuems for displays. Some sets and items do get destroyed.

Also there have been times in which production companies or networks hold auctions that are open to the public to sell props, furniture and other items used on the show. After Friday Night Lights ended, an auction was held in the Austin area in which all of the wardrobe and props were sold.

After The Wire ended, two building that housed sound stages were abandoned and various props were also abandonded in the buildings. There have been similar incidents before.

Sometimes they keep the props and use them again in another show.
