What came 1st? The show or the catchphrase? For instance, if a person has it made by doing nothing & having everything, people usually says, He/she "Lives the Life Of Riley." I know, I know, odd question, just curious.

According to the website phrases.org.uk the phrase came first. It was first popularized by American soldiers of Irish decent during WW I.
