In case you haven't already heard, Mahfuz Huq has been captured in India. As you'll recall, he was wanted for the 1989 murder of Todd Kelley.

The article I found briefly mentions UM and America's Most Wanted, since Mahfuz Huq was profiled on both shows.

Again, thanks for the information, Kane -- you always seem to find new information on these older cases.

I'm curious what information led to Huq's capture. Hopefully he will at last receive the legal punishment he deserves.

Wow, this is pretty amazing news! Considering that he was on the run for 22 years and was hiding out in a foreign country, this wasn't high on my list of cases that I thought would be solved. Just goes to show that no matter how they old they may be, you can never completely lose hope about these mysteries being solved.

What I'm most curious about, of course, is if any revelations will come out about whether or not Christie Mutzfeld was actually involved in the murder, or at least witnessed it and was intimidated by Huq into keeping quiet about it for all these years. Even if she had nothing to do with it, I wonder if Huq will decide to make some claims like that out of spite.

holy crap!! I didn't think that he'd ever be found. I hope that he clears things up one way or another. I tend to lean towards Christy being innocent, myself.

Great news!

You know, I can't quite explain why, but this was always one of my LEAST favorite segments. It sort of seemed...beneath Robert Stack's dignity to be discussing Christie and her little love triangle, or something.

Wow! I didn't think he'd be captured either. It's good to be reminded that there is still hope for some of these "cold" cases.

I am as shocked as everyone else that he has been captured. This is fantastic news. Can't wait for the trial. Let's see what comes out.

Thanks Kane! So glad he has been captured and am happy for Todd Kelly's family that they finally got some good news.

Wow, with in just four months, three cases featured on Unsolved Mysteries have been solved:
Arthur Lopez Jr. was captured in Mexico in November
Carlina White found alive in January
and now Mahfuz Huq
It's great to see all of these cases being solved!:D

This is awesome news. For some reason, I've always hated the fact that Mahfuz easily escaped (by leaving the country) and this was one I've always wanted to see him captured. Finally got my wish. Bye Mahfuz!

Just goes to show, never give up hope. No matter how long its been the truth can come out God willing. He has the answer even if no one else does and can find a way to bring it to light.

WOW!!!!! This was certainly on the top of my "Never Gettin' Solved" list. I frankly always imagined that authorities would have simply given up at this point knowing that he was in another part of the world. We see it happen so many times. I am curious as to the details of his capture. How did they find him? Also, like others I am very curious to hear his testimony as to Christie's involvement, if any.

It's interesting that neither the article nor the news segment mentioned Christie or the love triangle.

It would be good to hear a quote from her about Huq's capture.

Yes, I am curious as to what she has to say about this whole thing.

It's interesting that neither the article nor the news segment mentioned Christie or the love triangle.

I'm sure that future news reports and articles will, probably more so as the eventual court proceedings go on.

As long as I'm on the subject, even if Christie was not directly involved in Todd Kelley's death, I get the impression that the love triangle was the real reason she was being blamed by his parents. The Kelley family may very well believe that Todd would still be alive if Christie had never met Mahfuz Huq, or if she had never broken up with Todd in the first place. Although I'm not trying to judge or knock anyone, I can see how things like this can sometime have tragic results. :(

Although I saw the UM segment numerous times, I saw the America's Most Wanted segment only once or twice. But unless I am misremembering, the Kelleys never made any accusations against Christie on AMW.

The fact that Mahfuz Huq had been hiding in Bangladesh was not surpirising, since UM mentioned that area as a possible place for him to be. They also mentioned Boston as another possibility, which suggested that Mahfuz had some connections there.

The top article just briefly mentioned that the motive was believed to be over the same girl. I always leaned toward Christie being innocent, to be honest. I agree with Kane that certain tragic twists can happen without one ever realizing it at the time. No one could have known that a break-up or meeting another man would lead to this down the line. I would like to know what she is doing now with her life and how she feels about this development.

I went to the same school as Huq, both highschool and college. Knowing what type of person he was(is), I believe that he killed Todd, and the girl had some involvement. I also know that he left behind a note for his dad saying he was sorry and wouldn't see him for a long time. I live in Angola, and it's going to be interesting having a front row view of this case

I concur. :)

EDIT: How I could overlook this the first time I don't know, but it's kind of funny:

Huq...was arrested when he arrived in New Delhi for a table tennis training camp.

For those of you who are new to the board and possibly know Huq and haven't seen the segment the alleged murder of Todd Kelly wasn't his first illegal activity. UM stated he stole several thousands of dollars of jewelry from his family members.

I have tried to find Kristi Mutzfeld (not sure the exact spelling) online but no luck. I did read an article where her father said she moved out of state and her phone number in Florida had been disconnected. Also found a page for her on classmates and it said it was no longer valid. I can't help but wonder if she recently took it down as I'm sure there are a ton of reporters trying to get to her for an interview. If Huq's case goes to trial no doubt Kristi will have to come out of hiding to testify. It will be interesting to see if Huq blames the murder on her.

Hey guys- I haven't posted in a few months and just reading all the recent threads. This is great news. :) This is one of the cases I've always been personally interested in, and I didn't hold much hope out Mafooz would've been found, much less captured.

As far as Christie is concerned, like I've said in other threads about it...I think she was innocent and was kinda unfairly pigeonholed by Todd's dad. It's understandable from an emotional point of view (feeling like he'd still be alive if he hadn't been dating her and involved in the situation), but she was probably just scared of what Mafooz might do.

Today she'd still only be around 41 and I was surprised she doesn't have a Facebook or Myspace (unless she possibly remarried and isn't using her last name at all)...but considering it's a pretty unique name, chances are she just wanted to lay low after the UM segment aired. People could've been harrassing her for all we know, especially since the segments were in syndication for years.

Pretty much my reaction exactly. Amazed he's finally been captured and wondering what, if anything, he'll say, and whether his statements can be given any credit considering his character and motivations.

I also felt the same way about Christie and how she was treated by Todd's family. She was young and unsure of what to do about the situation she was in. I can understand why Todd's family was angry but I do wonder if they still blame Christie for Todd's death.

The suspense is killing me. I'm suprised that there haven't been more stories about it in local news. It's my home state, and Indiana ain't exactly exciting 24/7.

I watched a Farina episode tonight and they had this update, so its nice to see the show is that much up to date............... makes you more confident that they will actually show it if there is an update on any old cases.

Long as they do that I can overlook the fact that they show updates for cases that have been solved for years.

It wasn't much of an update though just a sentence or two but hey at least they updated it.

Anyone know if he has been extradited back to the US yet? This has always been one of the case that stuck with me probably because he committed the murder and got away with it. I'm happy he's been caught.

Reading some of the comment on the local news website and it seems like the guy was loved by his students. Time to show them the UM story...

Sorry for bumping this up (I've not been around these parts for around 2 years), but I just wanted to say how surprised and pleased I was to find out just now that Mahfuz was finally captured! This was one of the most memorable cases that I recall watching in the 92-93 season, and I thought they'd never catch him. No surprise that he was found outside the US.

Sorry to bump this, but I am dying for any kind of update in the case.

The murderer is caught, but has he gone to trial yet? Has he been sentenced?

I also want to know if Christine helped to clean up the murder scene. I believe that she did, but entirely though the forceful coercion of a mad man holding a knife. I don't really hold her at fault, but I do believe she made up the story about finding Todd's body that morning because she didn't want to be linked to the crime scene and possibly get charges filed against her.
