Sorrell Booke was born to play Boss Hogg! He was so at home in the role. He was the villain we loved to hate with emphasis on the love! I also enjoyed his work as General Bradley Barker in the first season of M*A*S*H. :rip: Sorrell Booke

:rip: God bless him!!! He was also in many Shakespeare plays and was fluent in several languages, which was put to good use when he served in the Korean War, in intelligence. Mr. Booke loved the role of Boss Hogg so much that when he went to fan events, it was always in costume and in character. He loved it so much that it was even put on his grave:

Yeah I read that he once spoke his lines in another language during rehearsal to play a joke on James Best

Yes, he and guest star Andrew Robinson (Ryan's Hope, Deep Space Nine) were both fluent in Japanese and spoke their lines in that language in rehearsal. I heard it was a joke on Rick Hurst (Cletus), but I could be wrong.

According to David Hofstede in his book "The Dukes of Hazzard : The Unofficial Companion" it was Rick Hurst who found himself in the middle of a Japanese language conversation between Sorrell Booke and Andrew Robinson.
