This is an amazing feat in today's increasingly fragmented and DVR-ed TV world: in its eighth season, CBS' NCIS last night posted a series high in total viewers: 22 million. The veteran procedural was the top program on the night by a mile in viewers and adults 18-49 (4.5/12), leading CBS to an easy nightly victory and solid ratings gains from the Tuesday lineup's last originals on Dec. 14. NCIS was up 13% in the demo; its spinoff NCIS: LA (3.7/9, 18 million), the second-highest rated program of the night, was up 12%. The Good Wife (2.3/6, 12.2 million) was up 5%, edging NBC's Parenthood (2.2, 5.6 million) to extend CBS' time-slot winning streak into the 10 PM hour. For the night, CBS averaged a 3.5/9 in 18-49 and 17.4 million viewers. NBC (2.8/7, 7.7 million) was second with Parenthood and two-hour Biggest Loser: Couples (3.2/8), which was down a tenth from its season premiere last week.
