Shout Factory has decided not to make Room 222 Season 3 available on DVD, due to the disappointing Sales of Season 2. That is a shame, because this is one of the greatest series of all time. Many of the issues that this series addressed 40 years ago are still relevant today.

If you want to see Season 3 on DVD, go to Shout Factory's website and make your request known. I am sure if they get a lot of requests, then they will consider making Season 3 available.

I think a lot of people were not happy with the shabby video quality of the 1st seasons DVD, and that might have had a negative effect on sales for the 2nd season. The episodes on the DVD are uncut, which to me is more important than the video quality. I am only interested in having seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, so I have what I want but I know there are fans who would like to have the whole series. Maybe there's still a chance the other seasons will eventually come out.

I have both Season 1 and Season 2, and I am very happy with the Video Quality. I think the real die hard fans of this show would like to have the entire series on DVD. I certainly want all 5 Seasons on DVD. But I think if the show were to come to TV Land, it would attract a new generation of viewers, and many of them would want to see it on DVD. The problem is that it has been so long since it has been on Television, that many people do not remember how good a series it was.

Attracting a new generation of viewers is what is necessary to effect the DVD Sales, but unfortunately Shout Factory cannot control what TV Land does. But I am hoping that Shout Factory would eventually setup a place where people could stream episodes online, and perhaps this will generate interest in this series enough to effect future DVD Sales.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed with Shouts decision and feel slightly deceived by them, myself and several members here were instrumental in getting Brian Ward (who doesn't visit here anymore) in getting Shout to start the online exclusives because they kept saying sales didn't generate enough revenue and stores like Best Buy wouldn't even carry the product....we asked for barebones sets which we were willing to pay extra for so shows that were abandoned could finally be released...we asked for no remastering, no extras....BTW these sets are manufactured at a real cost of about $5 per set.....especially when re-using artwork, etc.

Now Room 222 is the first series to be abandoned on a site that was created for series that were abandoned! This does not bode well for future Rhoda, Small Wonder, My Two Dads and others I guess......

I am THRILLED at their announcement of Dennis The Menace" but it just seems they are handling too much product....."Dennis" is a priority now, but by season 4 they will drop it.....yeah like we will ever get the Gale Gordon last season! "Father knows Best" was the only series treated with respect, but luckily we are down to the final season already being prepared.

I was Shouts biggest supporter here and have bought at least 10 on-line exclusives and answered many posters questions on how to get them either through shout or their amazon approved seller......

They now fall into the money grubbing category of Paramount and alike, terrible and very disloyal to their very loyal customers....if they own the license to the series, they could have had no artwork, manufactured on-demand, etc.

Even with the Shout Select program, if a title far undersells the expected number of sales, further releases could be cancelled. It's unfortunate news for those waiting for the 3rd season of Room 222. Since the 1st season DVD had such mediocre video quality, maybe that spelled doom for the 2nd season. Could be fans stayed away from it, thinking the video quality wouldn't be improved. Who knows, if enough people ask for the next season, they still might decide to release it. Might be a good idea for Shout Factory to include a manufacture on demand option in cases like this.

Sorry I respectfully disagree, if a company doesn't create new artwork which they didn't for Room 222 season 2, the actual cost to produce one set is $5....so charging nearly $40, I think the profit was enough....my point again is Shout Exclusives were created for shows with small niche audiences, so they shouldn't expect any "underselling"....why not just press 100 limited sets at a asking price of $100 each and if they sell, they sell, again since they cost $5 to manufacture.....it is a absolutely horrible poor business practices to abandone a series that was only sold on a site for abandoned series....Rhino Handmade has successfully done this for nearly 10 years, pressing exclusive CD boxsets of "Monkees" outtakes, etc....they make about 1000 units, charge $60 for 3 cd's and they are instant collectors items. The problem with shout is that they now want the immediate buzz and buck, like I mentioned "Dennis The Menace" is the hero now (and I am thrilled) but again will we ever see the Gale Gordon year? They dumped "Father Knows Best" season 4 to online, which was fine with me, but one the most famous sayings in the world should be taught to all DVD manufactures......

DON'T START SOMETHING YOU DON'T INTEND TO FINISH! which is what is taught to most grade schoolers!

I think they intended to finish it, but sales for the 2nd season were too low and they cannot continue, even for a Shout Select title.

Here is a quote from Brian Ward on the Shout Factory message board:

"I think the devoted fans should step up to the plate represent themselves in sales. We've sold HUNDREDS of copies of S2, rather than the THOUSANDS necessary to make any money and guarantee further releases. If people aren't buying them, we can't produce them."

Anyhow, I hope issues can be resolved and the next season will get released.

I agree, perhaps we can get enough people at this site, to pressure Shout Factory to produce a limited number of Room 222 Season 3 DVDs at a slightly higher cost for us die hard fans. If they sell those 100 DVDs, then perhaps they can produce another 100 Season 3 DVDs etc. Limited Editions seem to work well in the Auto Industry, so I do not see why the same practice could not work here. I would love Shout Factory to consider this option, I am sure if they brainstorm they can find a way to give loyal customers what they want and still make a profit. If there is a will, then there is a way.

Well he actually made my point without me even seeing brian wards' quote, they just don't get it!....I suggested 100 limited sets and he says season 2 sold "hundreds of copies"....I'm surprised it sold that well...solution...make 200 sets each of the remaining seasons, or better yet and even cheaper, bundle the entire rest of the series in one set limited to 500 units and charge $200.......and he can take his quote of "selling thousands necessary to make any money" and well you know..lol.....maybe he and his staff should have their salaries cut then! To tell US the "devoted fans to step up to the plate" is actually a disgusting unprofessional business practice statement....How about thanking the hundreds of loyal fans that DID shell out $40 and DID STEP UP TO THE PLATE?...A DVD company is actually complaining to us...LOL....the industry is full of too many youngsters that are addicted to the internet and don't know how to represent their own company with the correct choice words and with some dignity....he actually leaves out the people that did buy the series in his statement....that is professional.....when he turns over 35 he should be allowed to make public statements. In my opinion, MPI goes back to be being the leader in the classic DVD release department, as the shows they have released in complete could not have made profits either like Doris Day, Family Affair, Lola Falana specials, upcoming Rich Little Show, even the Lucy & honeymooners specials have such limited appeal. If Shout doesn't understand that Room 222 has extreme limited appeal, then those making decisions should be replaced. Here's to Antenna TV picking it up, if "Circus Boy" can be on their schedule, it demonstrates anything is possible! BTW I have worked in the television business for over 30 years.

My final added point at $40 a set and 200 sets sold...that is $8000 in sales, in my previous posts I said it costs in bulk about $5 per set to manufacture, which is $1000 to produce 200 sets, thus costing $1000 to manufacture, now lets even minus the postage, though I was over-charged as mine was sent media mail (thank you, must be that nasty handling!).....i know we need to factor in those salaries, we are still left with $7000 for a series that no one under 40 has ever heard of!...So Mr. Ward is stating for a series to warrent continuation, it must sell thousands, I will do the math again now at 2000 sets sold at $40 each....WOW....that is $80,000 in sales......bootleggers who home manufacture same quality or sometimes even better than industry sets, would love that type of profit...lol....happy holidays to all, even to the "grinch" who stole "Room 222".....all just said with educational facts and to let posters who care how the industry really works.

I agree MPI is a superb video company, every TV show release I've bought from them has been outstanding. Shout Factory is alright, but some of their releases are flawed such as edited episodes in the first seasons of Father Knows Best, Mister Ed, and Rhoda. For the most part I enjoy their Leave It To Beaver complete series, but some episodes have audio issues and there is an error with the opening teasers in the 1st seasons DVD.

If Shout Factory has decided not to continue with Room 222, maybe MPI can pick it up and finish the series off.

I was surprised also to see Circus Boy on Antenna TV's schedule. Maybe someone at the network likes the show, and was able to put the program on the schedule. Nice to see these new stations popping up that specialize in retro TV, they seem to do a pretty good job with a variety of old shows on the schedule. Better yet if they can air the shows in their complete, unedited versions.

I Completely agree with you as well, Antenna TV is very exciting and they seemed to have put alot of thought into their launch schedule, perhaps Circus Boy was a nice pairing because they will also air The Monkees as you know.....I am still preparing to try and see it and record it, as my cable company only has tentitive plans to maybe carry it....there are carriage fees you know, again it's all about dead presidents....lol....my best to you retro (we need to stick together) for a happy and healthy new year!

Thank you TeeVeeCloset, best wishes to you also for health and prosperity in 2011.

Thank you retroTVfan4ever and TeeVeeCloset, I enjoyed the back and forth and I actually learned something from this debate.

Maybe MPI is the answer to our dilemma.

Both of you have a Happy New Year.

You're very welcome and the same to you! It is very encouraging to hear when my sometimes very well thought out and educated essays generate positive responses and are actually read. I am very busy and this is the only site I visit and post, so your thoughtful words are sincerely appreciated. We shall all remain positive and hopefully will see the rest of the series someday, somehow.....lol....

I wanted to buy S2, but wasn't going to pay $40 for it on their website only (plus S&H). In todays economy people can't afford those prices for a 40 yr old sitcom. I enjoyed S1 and paid less than $20 for it. I would have bought continuing seasons if they were priced reasonably.
How can they wonder why S2 didn't sell, when it's not available anywhere but their website!!! Duh!

Shout Exclusives as well as other studio exclusives from Warner Bros & Columbia are available through Critics Choice Video, they are a well established distributor, shouts exclusives are also available on Amazon through a Shout approved affliated employee, so they are really not difficult to obtain, easier than your local store ...oh they just went out of business? Can't help with price, but Mr. Ward of Shout suggested (read above) that their selling expectations or greed for a niche series like "Room 222" in my opinion were WAY off base, hence it has been dropped.

You make it out to seem like Shout was never about money and sales and never about making a profit until recently.

Did you get season 2? I just bought Season 2 for about $30 new. Guess who was probably selling it? Yup, Shout TV. It was sold under an assumed name but I go back to amazon often and it's always selling for the same price with no ridiculous markup that people like to charge when a dvd is unavailable. This tells me there's no markup because Shout Factory is selling it directly. Grab yourself season 2 if you don't have it. I want seasons 3,4, and 5 so badly I can almost taste them.
