With all due respect, I've gotta take issue with both your points:
1. Though once recognized as one of the worst (if not, THE) worst in sitcom history, "MMTC" has been surpassed many, many times since!

2. In fact, this series made it through a full season, with 30 episodes currently available for viewing on hulu-tv.

Yeah to all of that, I am so tired of "MMTC" being held up to the worst standard in sitcom history....just because it lasted one season, was about a talking car? That was the 1960's period, the most creative and interesting time in television history....you could take the premise of most sitcoms from that period and on paper they sound awful and most of the successful ones only lasted a season or two as well.....examples...

The Munsters 2 seasons
The Addams Family 2 seasons
Bewitched & Jeannie just fun total fantasy
The Monkees 1 season
Batman
Lost In Space...did u see season 3?
Gilligans Island 3 seasons
Mister Ed talking horse
The Flying Nun 3 seasons
The Ghost & Mrs. Muir 2 seasons?

all premises that are just as dumb, stupid, yet wonderful!

since then we have had some of the worst created series, but "mother" gets the distintion of being awful and the worst, it was a cute family sitcom that didn't get enough exposure, so in history it keeps getting slammed. Enough already!

Trying looking and remembering all the bombs on Fox in its early years that lasted a few episodes like "whoops" or whatever it was called.

My Mother the Car was actually not even the least successful sitcom starring Jerry Van Dyke. His second sitcom, Accidental Family, didn't make it through a full season like MMtC. NBC cancelled it in January 1968 for a nighttime version of The Hollywood Squares.

If 'My Mother the Car' ever came out on DVD, I would be tempted to buy it.

I'll tell you what, I never even heard of Accidental Family! At least My Mother, The Car, has some distinction. I think MMTC should be released on dvd, also!

Jerry Van Dyke turned down the role of Gilligan on Gilligan's Island because he thought GI was a stupid show that would tank whereas MMTC was sure to be a big hit. I'm sure Bob Denver greatly appreciated Jerry Van Dyke's poor judgement!
