they will be doing rotating announcers as an audition type setup at the start of the new season. It will be am IMPROV COMIC and not your standard announcer

Rich's Own Press Release:

I am now able to confirm to you that I will NOT be returning to The Price is Right for season 39.

I have been given the "OK" from the show's executive producer Mike Richards and Fremantle executive Jen Mullen to inform you as to their plans for my now vacated position.

Mike and Jen have told me that they will be holding on-air auditions to fill the announcer position with... an improv comic. Yep, you heard right.

Mike explained to me that he loves having the "house bands" and "live performers" all the time on TPIR and that he hopes to make it more of a "variety show within a game show". He believes that having a comedian at the announcer's position from now on will enhance this new change in direction.

I wish them the best of luck with season 39 and beyond. I really do. I don't want Drew's new "love" to go sour for any reason. Hosting that show brings Drew (and many other people) a lot of joy.

Let me also cut down on internet speculation by saying that Drew Carey had nothing to do with this "change in direction". Drew has been my biggest champion. He and I will remain friends forever regardless of what happens to The Price is Right.

I want to publicly thank Drew for all of his support for me. Drew is a dear friend, like a brother, and has helped me in more ways than you'll ever know. He is one of the only people here in Hollywood that has never B.S.'d me about anything.

I want to thank Mr. Barker for making my life-long dream come true in the first place. I had a great run. Thank you, Bob. I am thrilled that you like the Grand Patron tequila. Cheers!

I would also like to thank you for being such a "loyal friend and true". I have really appreciated all of your kind words and well wishes thoughout my tenure at TPIR. I will miss "America's favorite family game show". I gave it my heart and soul every day, I hope you know that.

However, bigger and better things are still to come for me. There are projects in the works for me now that I will be able to divulge the details to very soon. In the meantime, I have accepted a position as the staff meteorologist at CBS flagship stations KCBS and KCAL here in Los Angeles. You can watch me world-wide on the internet at: http://cbs2.com/search?searchstring=rich+fields&tabid=0

Many more details from me later... that I promise.

Rich Fields would be a REALLY good choice for a game show host.If somebody, not Freemantle, because I've heard that he didn't get along with Freemantle too well, was to bring back "Concentration",he'd be a good host.Or maybe he'll be the host of the "Pyramid"reboot. He'd be great on that. And what he said about "The Price is Right"using an improv comic as announcer?I believe it,but give me a break,Freemantle. It wasn't broke,so why try to fix it?

I hope that Fremantle Media leave the successful format of The Price is Right alone and doesn't turn it into a variety/game show. It's had a successful run for 38 years and the ratings are still high so why mess up a game show classic?

...watch them hire some goofball like Dane Cook who just rambles on with a bunch of inane chatter and turn the show into a big joke.

and not a funny joke at that.

I don't have a good feeling about this. With the amount of prizes given, there should be a PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCER reading the copy, not a comic. Randy West, Burton Richardson, even Bob Hilton, for Pete's sake. Fremantle just can't leave well enough alone.

I very strongly agree. If Burton Richardson stays in California and doesn't go to Orlando for Family feud, he should be considered as the new full-time announcer. He substituted a number of times for Rod Roddy and did the short-lived 1994 syndicated version that was hosted by Doug Davidson.

I bet that the late Mark Goodson,is rolling over in his grave.I mean really.Goodson ,Bob Barker and the announcers(the late Johnny Olsen, the late Rod Roddy, and Rich Fields)were a big part that made the series a joy to watch. So did Drew Carey and Rich Fields. But now with Drew Carey and someone else(I still can't believe that Freemantle and the executive producer of "TPIR" is hiring an IMPROV COMIC(!!)to be the announcer),as the announcer,it doesn't look very good for "The Price is Right".Only time will tell.

What will they call it in season 39,because for a time when it first began in 1972,it was called "The New Price is Right","The New,New,New Price is Right?"

Here are your 3 rotating announcers this year:

THE PRICE IS RIGHT welcomes JD Roberto (Vegas TPIR announcer), Brad Sherwood (whose line) and Jeff Davis (Whose line) as rotating guest announcers on television's longest-running game show when it returns this fall for its 39th season, hosted by actor/comedian Drew Carey, on the CBS Television Network.
