We had one a couple years ago but I haven't seen it lately. When I was a kid we had an ice cream truck and a snow cone truck that went around our neighborhood regularly. I remember running after them all the time after I got my money. lol
There is one here that comes around. It plays a really weird song though, ice cream trucks are only supposed to play "The Enertainer" or "Turkey in the Straw" period. I must admit even though I'm 31, when ever I hear an ice cream truck the 5 year old in me comes out. :D

I heard an ice cream truck go by earlier this evening. And I guess there must be a 5 year-old inside of me because when I heard it I jumped out of my chair and ran over to the window to see it! :D

Here in Brooklyn, we usually get two kinds of ice cream trucks.
One type is a small truck that basically is just "a freezer on wheels". Those trucks just sell the packaged ice cream goods that you can buy in the supermarket.
Years ago they also used to sell fart bombs, pop-its, and candy cigarettes but due to complaints from what kids were doing with those items made them have to stop selling it.
The other is a bigger truck called Mister Softee. They come with small kitchens inside the truck and specialize in soft-serve ice cream, and can prepare milkshakes.
They have a freezer as well that sells the packaged treats.
Nowadays, one ice cream truck drives through my neighborhood every afternoon.
When I was a kid, two ice cream trucks -- a small one, and a larger panel truck -- came to my neighborhood every day. I would buy pre-packaged ice cream (Sidewalk Sundaes, Dixie bars, popsicles, etc.) from the small truck, and buy baseball cards from the larger truck. Three or four nights a week, a different panel truck would drive through my neighborhood, selling soft-serve cones and shakes (if the shake machine was working)!

OK...I KNOW I will regret asking this, but...what is a "fart bomb"?

Fart Bombs / Stink Bombs are little bags that contain chemicals that basically smell like sh*t when you set it off.
It works similar to a hand grenade; on the fart bomb there is a pressure point on the bag you are supposed to press when you want to use it.
When you press the pressure point it releases the chemicals inside the bag causing it to expand until it POPS. It's maybe 5-10 seconds until it goes off.
OH Nuts!

I see the trucks from time to time in Manhatta and much more frequently in the boroughs. The panel trucks you see all over the place in Central Park.

The one going around my neighborhood this summer is playing Christmas music. Seriously! It alternates between either Jingle Bells or Rudolph. I do not want to hear Christmas carols in June when it is 95 degrees outside. Still there is that excitement of hearing it over on the next street and knowing it is coming this way.

OK, thanks. That's...actually something of a relief because for one frightening moment I thought it might be something..errr...'edible'. :(

LOL
Yeah, many neighbors across town weren't happy that kids were throwing pop-its at people and leaving fart bombs at their door after they rang their doorbells.
Candy cigarettes were another issue since they came packaged in boxes that resembled real cigarette packs. I haven't seen them in a while... I liked them.
So when people got word that it was the ice cream trucks making these products easily available to kids, they complained and most of them stopped selling it.

when I was growing up in the 60s, we had one in our nieghborhood; he used to drive up and down the streets and if you wanted him to stop you had to wave or shout "STOP"! or something. I remember me and my brother used to like to shout "STOP"! sometimes then hide behind a bush or something. We'd see him stop, stick his head out, look around, not see anyone and keep going. Then we'd shout "HEY!! I SAID STOP"!! He'd stop, look around again, not see anyone and keep going. We would keep doing that over and over, but they never caught on.
