The changes that Pavan outlined in the ION sked (dropping 'Shark', more 'Criminal Minds') may have been influenced by the mininet falling back to levels not seen since Week 3 of the 2009-10 season. For Week 28:

Week 28 (Mar.29-Apr.4, 2010)
ION 0.6HH/1%, 0.2 A18-49 (320,000), 860,000 P2+ viewers

Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-28 (Sep.21-Apr.4, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (400,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

In the coming weeks, ION will be getting their first ratings data for 'The Emeril Lagasse Show' on Sunday nights (original at 8 pm, encore at 7 pm). If Mr. Lagasse's show takes off, it should give ION the Nielsen juice it needs to get some record-breaking numbers in the upcoming May Sweep.

Jude The Obscure

And hopefully the juice to try more variety/entertainment original programming. It seems ION relies too much on certain shows....

Perhaps it was not competing against CBS's 'NCAA March Madness College Basketball' playoffs, but ION rebounded nicely in Week 29, with a week-long average that perfectly mirrored its season-to-date averages.:

Week 29 (Apr.5-Apr.10, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (390,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-29 (Sep.21-Apr.10, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (400,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

Very soon, ION will be getting their first ratings data for 'The Emeril Lagasse Show' on Sunday nights (original at 8 pm, encore at 7 pm), and it will be most interesting to see the ratings for broadcast televisions one and only primetime variety show.

You remember that about 4 or 5 years ago,in the morning,ION had a comedy block of "My Little Margie","I Married Joan","The Beverly Hillbillies" and "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet"?(I know, all they have on in the morning now is informercials)It would be nice if they could air OTHER 1950's and 1960's shows,ALL of the episodes of "The Addams Family","Green Acres","My Three Sons",(the black and white ABC AND CBS color),"The Donna Reed Show","Father Knows Best",etc,in a morning-mid-afternoon comedy block,in addition to what they air now.

wow that is a boring schedule - 90% of it is just three shows. (not counting all the infomercials of course)

That wasn't a national Ion thing.....only select areas and services like DirecTV. Most Ion viewers always had informercials.

And yes, Robyrob--agreed, they rely too much on the same shows!

Unfortunately, 'The Emeril Legasse Show' opened rather out of gas with an 0.3HH/1% on Sunday night, the lowest number on the night for ION. Critical reviews were not kind for this ION original, and a cooking-reality-variety concept may be just a touch non-aligned to ION's nightly staples of theatricals and 'Criminal Minds' encores.

In Week 30, ION got a week-long average that was in the range of its season-to-date averages.:

Week 30 (Apr.12-Apr.18, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (390,000), 990,000 P2+ viewers

Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-30 (Sep.21-Apr.18, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (400,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

As ION's ratings record-breaking 2009-10 season comes to a close with the upcoming May Sweep, the ION schedulers need to think carefully about next steps to take the network up a few notches into the Nielsen territory of MyNetworkTV (averaging 0.7 A18-49 and 2,140,000 P2+) and The CW (0.9 A18-49 and 1,996,000 P2+). ION needs to continue to add brand-defining original programming on a selective basis, and it needs to get to work on expanding and upgrading its affiliate mix now that it has some good numbers to tout.

Well let's give it a few more weeks......I'm sure the kinks are being worked out and I'm sure word will spread that Emeril is back with a new show.

The Guard was doing AWFUL for ION...

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- ION has tabled its run of the Canadian drama "The Guard."

"[The series] did not find a broad enough audience on the network. So at this time, it is on hiatus," a network spokesperson told the site this morning.

"The Guard" has been absent from ION's Saturday lineup for the past two weeks. Various repeats will continue to fill the Saturday, 9:00/8:00c and 10:00/9:00c hours for the foreseeable future.

'The Emeril Legasse Show' fell in its second week to a barely visible 0.2HH rating, and pay see a timeslot switch or hiatus coming as it is pulling only 33% of the ION weekly average in households.

In Week 31, ION got a week-long average that was just below its season-to-date averages.:

Week 31 (Apr.19-Apr.25, 2010)
ION 0.6HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (350,000), 920,000 P2+ viewers

Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-31 (Sep.21-Apr.25, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (400,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

I'm not sure what summer season plans ION has upcoming, but the network might want to look at some summer launches of new series on nights when there is diminished network competition. Had it launched 'The Emeril Legasse Show' in the summertime, ION might have gotten a wider initial sampling for the novel reality-variety series.

This channel ranks somewhat behind Hallmark in scheduling....While I understand the need to improve ratings, they have to know that they are not CBS, Fox, ABC, etc and cannot expect instant turnaround. And what is their solution? More Ghost Whisperer and more Criminal Minds...this reminds me of when they reran Mama's Family into the ground. They are going to kill these shows with the over exposure.

catsrule
04-28-2010, 03:17 PM
Actually I don't think Mama's Family was overexposed, it never got more than an hour a day.

Jude The Obscure
04-28-2010, 07:17 PM
By overexposed i mean, it ran through several cycles without a rest. The same is happening to Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds. We all know what happens when shows are relied on too heavily for any schedule.

Du Mont

In Week 32, ION bumped up a bit from the week before, and averaged in teh range of its season-to-date averages.:

Week 32 (Apr.26-May.02, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (390,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-32 (Sep.21-May.02, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (400,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

Still waiting to see the ION summer season plans...I'm sure Pawan will have them up on the boards as soon as they are announced. It would be nice to see some fresh series, and specifically some sitcoms back in the line-up.

Is Emeril still underperfoming?

robyrob
05-05-2010, 10:57 AM
i am still pissed that they took Shark off - this is the only time these episodes have been re-aired, and the only chance to see episodes that were preempted or missed on CBS

Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds have already been replayed to death on other channels, who CARES about them now?

Jude The Obscure

Is Emeril still underperfoming?
I'm not sure what the reatings were for last Sunday as the series was aired out of primetime.

Effective with the Sunday May 2, 2010 episode #1.3, ION has moved 'The Emeril Legasse Show' out of primetime to 5:00 pm, with an encore of the previous weeks episode at 4:00 pm. I'm not sure how long the run is, but I seem to remember reading 8 episodes somewhere (Pavan may be able to clarify).

Jude The Obscure
05-07-2010, 02:01 PM
Well I guess out of primetime means the expectations will not be as high.

Du Mont
05-19-2010, 12:29 AM
In Week 34, ION fell a bit below its season-to-date averages, but is still on track for a record-setting May Sweep number:

Week 34 (May.10-May.16, 2010)
ION 0.6HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (350,000), 930,000 P2+ viewers

Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-34 (Sep.21-May.16, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (400,000), 1,020,000 P2+ viewers

I'm sure once Pavan is finished with his extensive upfront reporting, we'll hear from him about the ION summer season plans...now that comedy is king, it would be nice to see some sitcoms put back in the mix (even another summer run of M*A*S*H would be nice), and a little less of the crimetime programming.

Jude The Obscure
05-20-2010, 12:48 AM
Is Ion even having an upfront for this fall?

VisualSensation
05-24-2010, 10:57 PM
Why Emeril decided to do a show on Ion over ANY cable network is beyond comprehension. In today's world there is no place for a broadcast network like Ion and their current schedule of programming. The ratings demonstrate this on a weekly basis.

Du Mont
05-25-2010, 10:51 PM
In Week 35, ION had a week that was a notch below its season-to-date averages, but is still on track for a record-setting May Sweep number and its very first million viewer regular season:

Week 35 (May.17-May.23, 2010)
ION 0.6HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (360,000), 900,000 P2+ viewers

Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-34 (Sep.21-May.16, 2010)
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (390,000), 1,010,000 P2+ viewers

Still no word from Pavan on ION summer season plans...hoping for comedy which is king, but probably getting more of those highly-rated 'Criminal Minds' hours.

I noticed that the Ion Life channel is now showing movies during prime time. Tonight they are airing Godfather part 3. Maybe there is hope that someday they get enough sense to at least start showing classic sitcoms on that channel as well.

Ion doesn't even have any classic shows. I highly doubt they would spend any money on shows for a subchannel.

Agree with the above poster that there isn't really much of a place for Ion in today's TV world.
