Teen sensation Selena Gomez has stepped in for Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman in upcoming movie Monte Carlo, after producers decided to give the script a more youthful spin. The 17-year-old Disney actress has been named the new star of the comedy, based on the book Headhunters by Jules Bass.
Kidman, 42, was set to star in the film in 2005, which originally followed the novel's plot more closely and sent four New Jersey women to Monaco, where they posed as heiresses.
According to trade paper Daily Variety, producers have updated the script to instead focus on a group of college and high school girls traveling from Paris, France.
Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester is also reportedly in talks to join the cast.
Production is set to begin in May.
