Jason Winer, the brains behind the fantastic new sitcom "Modern Family" (one of the wittiest and more genuinely funny of the TV Laffers currently on offer), has signed on to direct Russell Brand in the "Arthur" remake.
The Peter Baynham-written pic will follow the same storyline as Dudley Moore/Liza Minelli-starring original, centering on the boozy son of millionaire (Brand) who will inherit a fortune if he agrees to marry a heiress. Unfortunately for Arthur's wallet, he falls for a hooker; ultimately turning to his valet (Meryl Streep is rumoured for the role) for help when his family make him choose between the lass or the loot.
