As you change and grow as a person, sometimes your opinions on certain things evolve. For quite some time, I preferred Knots Landing to Dallas, and I preferred the early years of Dallas to the later years. I just, well, did. But somewhere in the last 9 months or so, I’ve had a change in mindset and have really grown to love Dallas. Watching this season for the review...I’ve grown to like this season, a stark departure from my previous review when I said approximately that the last three seasons weren’t worth the stock they were recorded on. As I’ll explain later on they probably should have recorded these episodes on better stock, but the episodes themselves, well, really they’re not that bad.

Anyway, the 12th season of Dallas is now on DVD from Warner Home Video! Just two more seasons left and the series is complete on DVD.

I think Dallas was suffering from old age by year 12. There were some very silly storylines in the last few seasons: J.R. on a chain gang -- J.R. getting trapped in an insane asylum, etc. It seemed as though the writers were having trouble coming up with fresh ideas for the character. J.R. would never have been caught in these comedic situations in the early years of the show.

I think also, the show suffered the loss of some major characters. Gone were Sue Ellen, Pam, Miss Ellie, Clayton, Ray and when you take away characters that a show is built around, it diminishes the show somewhat.

After so many seasons and so many episodes, eventually, the writers are going to run out of ideas. Dallas probably should have bowed out gracefully a few years earlier, but one can't blame the cast and producers for wanting to hold on to their jobs.

Season 12 was my favorite season out of the later years. I do plan to get season 13 and 14 when they're released (they were still good seasons storyline-wise). I hope Warner Bros. releases 'The Early Years', 'J.R. Returns', and 'War Of The Ewings' as one set, much like the 'Dukes of Hazzard' reunion movies.

I liked the ranch war storyline in season 12, and as Sue Ellen was working on the movie about J.R. it was cool to see the flashback scenes. However I didnt like the J.R. chain gang storyline. J.R. was too sharp to let him get set up in a something like that, and Callie may have been pretty, but I find it hard that J.R. would consider her worthy enough to be with him.

That's pretty much how I feel. I loved the range war but the Cally storyline was stupid. The old JR would never let himself get into trouble like that.

I'm currently viewing Season Twelve and after having viewed the first 10 episodes of this season . . . . I can firmly say, IMHO, that Dallas most definitely jumped the shark!!!!!! LOL! The whole thing about JR getting married and being on the chain gang was so ridiculous. I think on the cover of the DVD set for this season they should have put a picture of JR on waterskies jumping over the shark.

Respectfully,

P.S. I'm looking forward to the new release of Dynasty which will be released next week. :D

I agree, thats probably one of the worst storylines of the whole show. I am suprised Hagman went along with this.
