"St. Elsewhere" is awesome. The first season of "Chicago Hope" is very good (remember the episode when everyone got quarantined in the OR?), but went downhill when Mandy Patinkin and Peter MacNicol left and the writers changed. The early years of "ER" are excellent, too, but now it feels like they're doing the same stories over again with new (and more boring) characters.

They will, sooner or later. Kovatch (sp?) broke up with her in last night's episode.
I love ER, but last season was sort of a snoozer. Hopefully it'll start reverting to the way it was in the early years.

Dr. Carter just doesn't do it for me. They're positioning him to be the lead character once Anthony Edwards leaves at the end of this year, but he seems so blah. He's the Chris O'Donnell of television.
And I wish they'd hurry up and bring back Susan Lewis. I'm a little annoyed that she wasn't back in the season premiere, but I bet they're holding her reappearance for November sweeps.

I still love ER, although I loved it a whole lot better the first 4 seasons. Kellie Martin really ruined the show for me. It has gotten a bit better since she left though.

WingsFan, I'm just curious, why did she ruin it for you? I really like Kellie Martin and I was pissed off that they killed Lucy. Is there some reason you don't like her, or does she just get on your nerves or something for no explainable reason? If so, I understand, there are actors I don't like and I can't really explain why I don't like them.....
Anyway...my favorite medical show is either ER or M*A*S*H, but then those and Chicago Hope are the only ones I've ever really seen, so I don't have much to go on.

ER. I think that Carter will be great as the lead character on the show. But then again, I'm biased. I liked him from the start. Yes, he's likeable and nice guy. But he's had his share of rough times. His character has grown and matured over the last seven years. He's ready to take over for chief resident or chief attending surgeon at County General when Dr.Green leaves.

Ya know, I haven't seen all of the medical shows, and I've heard wonderful things about some of the other shows mentioned here, but I think that Marcus Welby, M.D. is my favorite. It gives me this sort of at-home feeling, not like current dramas, though I still LOVE ER.

Does Quincy M.E count? ( You know that show with Jack Klugman), if it does then that is by far my favorite, but if not then I would have to say ER

My parent love ER. I like Marcus Welby, M.D.. Anybody watch that Fandemonium last August?
I like Marcus Welby because it has the distinction of being the first show in the history of ABC to reach #1 in the Neilsons. That was during the 1970-71 season. Although it was the only year it reached #1 (CBS's All in the Family ruled the ratings during the remainder of its run) it was a great show and still had positive ratings. But like any long-time series, the show lost viewers during the last couple of seasons before ending its run in 1976.
I also like Marcus Welby because it was a very touching show. The doctor not only treat the patient's illness, he treated the whole patient. That was what made it work. The series also had a lot of fine guest stars during its run from 1969-76. I wish this show would come back.
