I think he was crying. When the final episode aired on Bravo, I was really mad because they went straight to the fox fanfare.

I have the original NBC airing of the final episode.

He spends the credits hooked up to a heart monitor, then at the end, the words "MTM Productions" fade in, where they would usually be, and the kitten dies.

This may be a metaphor for the company after it was sold to TVS, the British media co. MTM Productions as we remember it was gone; unable to produce any hit shows after 1982, they floundered under TVS, then under the guidance of International Family Entertainment, and finally the elimination of the brand name under News Corporation's control.

The fact that future prints of this and other great MTM Productions shows won't have this logo is a travesty.

The demise of MTM was an absolute shame. They were a boutique production house with the reputation of turning out quality shows. They had a reputation of being very good to their creative talent, so they were able to attract a lot of great talent. "Mary Tyler Moore", "Bob Newhart", "Newhart", and "St. Elsewhere" were just some of the great shows produced by MTM. Even their flops were better than flops from the major studios.

Unfortunately, business is really tough for independent studios today. The only real successful independent right now is Carsey-Werner-Mandabach ("That 70s Show", "3rd Rock", "Cosby"). With most of the major networks now actually owned by studios (ABC/Disney, CBS/Viacom, etc.), it's tougher for the little guys to get their shows on the schedule. Too bad -- I think this discourages the growth of small studios which specialize in quality shows.

I had to have someone tell me this when it originally aired on NBC, because the #$!$$%!# Atlanta NBC station cut off the credits to show a promo for the news.

Don't you just hate like hell when the stupid local stations do that? Here in NC, when they do a promos for the news, they go on and on about one story in particular then make you wait the entire hour before showing it.
