...is the expression used by those in the vintage TV collecting community to describe the gutting of a vintage TV set for the purpose of (what else?) installing a fish tank behind the screen. I know a lot of Hobby Lobby types see this as a very clever and creative exercise in both decoration and recycling but TV collectors see it as nothing less than heresy!

Why bring this up? I just watched an episode of Caroline In The City online and it happens that an example of this type of retro butchery dresses the set of the title character's apartment. I had long wondered which show from the 90s that I had seen a couple of times (on the screens over the treadmill at the gym) was the one with the fish tanked TV set just to the right of the camera-right entrance. Bingo, it was Caroline. Such a sad fate for a nice old Westinghouse console.

Oh well...at least it wasn't transformed into a litter box!

To tell you the truth, I had never heard the term "fish tanking" before. In any event, I would like to salute the thread starter's sense of humor at the end of his post! On top of this, it is very nice to see a new thread (started by someone other than me) on a page that gets as little action as this one!
