The Young and the Restless is about get a happy ending.
Eric Braeden, the longtime star of the CBS soap, has agreed to take a pay cut and return to the show, TVGuide.com has confirmed.
The actor, 68, had been expected to leave the show following its Nov. 2 episode. Young and the Restless' entire cast and crew were asked to take pay cuts earlier this year, but Braeden refused to take the reduction and walked off the show's set in September.
Braeden's return, first reported by The Wrap, is even more shocking considering his recent comments to Entertainment Weekly that he had "pulled the plug" on recent contract negotiations.
It is not yet known when the actor, who has been with the soap since 1980, will officially return.

I knew he'd be back quickly. I knew "The Mustache" wouldn't stay away!
EB is a major drama queen! You just KNOW he's eating up all of this attention. He can't blow his nose without someone reporting it now, and he loves it. I can't not admire the man.

I had a feeling this was coming. His leaving the show never seemed final to me, and neither did Melody's earlier in the year.

That was my exact feeling, too - in both cases. Hey, if Susan Lucci can take a pay cut, so can they - and she's been on her show a decade longer than they've been on theirs!!

Why should Soap stars be immune from the recession? The rest of us aren't! Also I think this is going to be the norm in the Soap world anyway from now on.

Plus, even in the recession, they're still making gobs more money than us regular folk.

I will never, ever forget his gaffe at the Daytime Emmys during the tribute to Bill Bell. He accidentally said, "God bless Eric Braeden". :o

I think it was in 2005, right after Bill Bell's death.

I'm sure he realized that making less money is a heck of a lot better than not having a job at all.

Yeah, it was 2005. That whole show was full of fantastic moments. Best of all, Jill Phelps getting the ol' cut-off right when she began to give her smug acceptance speech.

Thanks! Speaking of jobs - someone please tell me how in the heck Jill Farren Phelps is still employed on soaps. She's been with GH since 2001!!!!! For that matter, why is Bob Guza still on? They've completely ruined GH and still win Emmys, which goes to show that those awards don't mean squat anymore. ohno:

 how did i know he'd come crawling back when he realized no one else in the world would hire his untalented behind! the guy CAN'T act and i think i was the only one in the world who was glad he was let go.
him and melody made fools out of themselves by refusing the offers on the table and then slinking back quickly afterward when they realized how dismal their future job prospects were.
i have no respect for them.they have no class, no class at all. everyone is making sacrifices in this economy, and the people who should suck it up with grace is these overpaid Hollywood actors.

^ Again, I point to Susan Lucci, who took a pay cut and she's been on her show a decade longer than EB & MTS have been on theirs. Not a complaint from Susan in the press. Plus, with AMC moving west, she'll get to see her daughter and grandkids more often since they live in CA.

Your guess is as good as mine. Their reign of terror has been going on for far too long, and I don't see it ending before GH airs its last episode...whenever that'll be. All I can say is thank God for YouTube. I can't remember the last time I watched the whole ABC soap lineup from beginning to end...I've been too busy watching old episodes online.

Though, the thing is, Eric was one of the first to offer to take a pay cut. They just weren't sticking to their original contract agreement with him. I can fully understand why he was pissed. I don't think it has anything to do with him having or not having class. I also highly disagree with him not having talent. I've been nervous for some characters at times when they had to face the wrath of Victor!

Well regardless of the manipulations or machinations, I for one am glad to see Braedon returing to Y&R. I think he is a great actor and has been an asset on the show.
Speaking of pay. Don Hastings has played Bob Hughes on As The World Turns since 1960. I would be curious to know how much he makes, and who in daytime makes more than he does.

Eileen Fulton has also been on ATWT since 1960, Helen Wagner's been on since Day 1 (1956), Frances Reid has been on DAYS since its first episode in 1965, and the retiring Ray MacDonnell has been on AMC since its inception in 1970. I'd love to know how much they get paid compared to the others in daytime.
