I just received an email from James Vernon indicating that he did find Libby. She called in the night of the broadcast but chose to remain anonymous because she was still a crisis counselor. James also told me that he is still sober 27 years later and credits Libby for his recovery.
For those who don't remember this story, James Vernon was searching for "Libby" a crisis hotline counselor who encouraged him to kick his heroin addiction. It was a "lost loves" segment, and to the best of my knowledge, was not shown on Lifetime or Spike.

YEAH!!!!
Thanks for posting this, justins5256! That is great news -- both that he found Libby and that he is still sober.
I remember this one well. I was always surprised it wasn't solved because I would have thought it wouldn't be too tough to find who the counselor was, but now it makes sense.
I'm really happy for him. Thanks for sharing!

Wow!!! I know this is an old thread, but I just watched this case recently and logged on and saw this wonderful update!!!!
This is one of my all-time favorite segments because it is very moving, and because it was so well acted and produced. The image of James standing on a seedy, dark street corner saying "I'm lonely and I'm scared...oh, and by the way, I'm a junkie," has always stayed with me.
I actually recently showed this clip to a substance abuse group I lead, and many of the participants were in tears!!!! I can't wait to tell them that he has been clean for 27 years!!!!
