NEW YORK (AP) -- When ABC's "All My Children" makes its move from Manhattan to Los Angeles, Susan Lucci will go along for the ride.

The leading lady of the durable daytime drama says she has decided to keep playing oft-wed diva Erica Kane, just as she has since "All My Children" premiered in 1970.

ABC said Wednesday that most of the New York-based cast will reconvene at the new L.A. shooting site, where production begins in early January.

The main exception is Ray MacDonnell, is a charter cast member, like Lucci. He is retiring from his role as Dr. Joe Martin.

"All My Children" will still be set in the fictional town of Pine Valley. ABC says production is moving west to save money and enhance the show's production values.

Exactly!! AMC wouldn't be AMC without Susan/Erica.

She pretty much IS the show, so I'm glad she's making the move out West.

That's right! Susan IS AMC. I wonder how they will write out Dr. Martin, as Ray MacDonnell is retiring from the show and staying East.

She's commuting, she's not actually moving. How often will we see her? Probably not that much

Maybe they will pretape a lot of her scenes when she does arrive, that way she'll still be on screen a lot.

It will be interesting to see who else is leaving and who is staying.

Matthew Ashford (Jack, DOOL) did that when he was playing Dr. Stephen Haver on OLTL. He lives in California, but OLTL is taped in NYC. I think it's great that he sacrificed so much for his family but didn't want to put them through the stress of moving so far away. He has two young daughters; one of whom had retinoblastoma (eye cancer) when she was born. :(

I agree with Monika in that they'll probably tape a lot of her scenes when she comes to California. It makes sense, really. Makes it more productive. I'm sure her castmates will miss her, though, since they won't get to see her as much.
