If you haven't already notice, my fan fictions are obviously much different than usual. Unlike other fan fiction writers, I don't get right to the dialogue, and get everything started. I, instead, do everything in story-book form and give background for my reunions. I enjoy having the details taht the story-book form of fan fiction can give you. It's not that I don't like the script-version, it's just that I think that you can really get to know more from a story-version. Anyways, I want to mention that there may be a FEW problems with this fanfiction, mainly because I haven't seen "After M*A*S*H", so I am unsure of the town they were in and everything, even after checking several websites on the series, so I just assumed it was back in Potter's hometown. There MAY be a few other problems, as well, so sorry.
Wedged in between World War II and The Vietnam War, The Korean War lasted only three years compared to World War II’s six years and The Vietnam War’s 16 years (of which, the United States only participated in ten). However, even given how small it was compared to those two great conflicts, The Korean War would have an enormous impact on many of the wonderful men and women that served. Our story, however, does not focus on everyone that served, but only those that served at the M*A*S*H 4077. These brave men and women served their country in one of the noblest ways. They risked their lives on or deadly close to the front by saving the lives of others who served.
It is now 25 years (or, if you would like, a quarter of a century) after the deadly conflict, and the colonel and his wife and Captain Hunnicut and his wife have prepared for a reunion. This would be only the first meeting of almost all of the living veterans since the end of the war. (However, many of them did stay in touch by phones, and a few of them did meet from time to time, although usually you could never get a meeting of more than five or six at a time). Unfortunately, several had died over the years. Major Frank Burns, later promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, had died in 1970 of a stroke. Private Igor Straminsky died in 1962 of a car accident. Nurse Bigelow died in 1955 of an accidental suicide after a shelf full of heavy objects fell over her in the hospital she was working at.
Many had lived, though, as well. Captain Hawkeye Pierce, Major Margaret Houlihan, Captain BJ Hunnicutt, Colonel Sherman Potter, Corporal Walter “Radar” O’Reilly, Sergeant Maxwell Klinger, Father (First Lieutenant) Frances Patrick Mulcahy, Captain John McInyre, Major Charles Emerson Winchester III, Nurse Kellye, and many others had all lived. Even the wives of Colonel Potter (Mildred), Captain Hunnicutt (Peg), and Sergeant Klinger (Soon-Lee) had lived. But, more on that later and even more later. Now that the solid facts are out of the way, maybe we should get on with our story!
Since the war, Sherman had established himself as a doctor in his hometown of Hannibal, Missouri. Mildred and he were still alive and well, and both still very happy. Father Mulcahy, Max Klinger, and Soon-Lee still lived in Hannibal near the Potters. The reunion would be held in Hannibal for several reasons. First, Mildred and Sherman are getting a little older, and while they still have their health, it is a little harder to move around than before. Second, and most important, Hannibal has the largest concentration of MASH 4077 veterans. They had reserved space at the General John J. Pershing for the reunion.
BJ and Peg had been in Hannibal for several days before the reunion. Even Erin accompanied them to this reunion which was so special for both of them. It was Peg and BJ who were the most involved during the war with keeping in touch with everyone. It was they who helped to put together the reunion of all of the family members during the war. It was also they who had put together this reunion, and had been working for several days in Hannibal to make everything perfect for the reunion. It had been years since BJ had seen Hawkeye, and he was very anxious to see him again. What he really wanted to do, though, was meet Hawkeye’s wife. BJ was supposed to be the best man at his wedding, however Erin had been very sick, and he was unable to attend. Hawkeye had been married for the past 18 years, but during each of the few times that Hawkeye and BJ had seen each other since the war, BJ never got a chance to meet her. (However, Hawkeye did have a chance to meet Peg).
