Favorite Season 1 Episode?

I'm new to the BNS board. :) I just started watching this show recently via dvd rentals.

What is your favorite Season 1 episode?

Welcome aboard! Gosh, I have quite a few favorites from the first season -

"Bob and Emily and Howard and Carol and Jerry" (I think that's the order) - anyway, it's the one where all 5 end up crammed in the Hartley bathroom while Howard and Carol have it out. A little trivia: Marcia Wallace said that episode was one of the few where she and Bill Daily had a lot of interaction with each other on camera, and she really enjoyed doing that one.

"His Busiest Season" - the Christmas episode. I love it when they all sing together towards the end.

"Not With My Sister, You Don't" - where Jerry dates Howard's little sister, played by Heather Menzies. A little more trivia: Heather loved doing that episode, said it was loads of fun.

"Don't Go to Bed Mad" - great one for showing the relationship between Bob and Emily, especially when Howard gets involved!

BTW, I own the season - and these are the episodes that I play the most when I dig out season 1. (I also own seasons 2, 3 and 4, and would LOVE to own 5 and 6 if only Fox would allow us the pleasure!!!)

Woohoo! Jenny, welcome to the BNS board - I'm glad you're enjoying the series so far. Trust me, the show only gets better from here - Seasons 2, 3 and especially 4 are gold. They have what Season 1 lacks - featurettes and episode commentary from Bob Newhart among others.

Back to Season 1 - here are my favorites:

My favorite from Season 1 is probably Episode 2 (Tracy Grammar School), being able to see Emily as a teacher. I also liked all of the Howard Borden appearances a little later on in the season.

The thing about the season that appeals to me is that it's a look at the very early '70s and how a lot of late '60s carries over. Things like fashions, carpeting and decor, etc., especially seeing a lot of LP records in the apartment. And Bob wearing a hat, that takes me back (I remember how my Dad had summer and winter hats). I like the opening scenes a lot.

Oh yes, the decor, hair and clothes!! They're the only things that really date the show. Otherwise it's as fresh as ever because they didn't go into topical humor or were preachy. Just comedy, with great actors and writers who knew what they were doing. Too bad shows like this aren't made today. :mad:

Oh the clothes:lol: I think Marcia and Bob (all that plaid!) were the worst offenders.

My favorite episode is ''Don't Go To Bed Mad'' and I love Bill in 'Bob and Emily and Carol and Howard....'' Season 1 is not the best IMO , I much prefer later seasons , Bob was a bit of a jerk in season 1 sometimes.

In the commentaries, they all laugh about the clothes. Man, a lot of those 70s fashions were beyond hideous. :eek: :lol:
