Rockers KINGS OF LEON have criticised their fellow Americans for their poor taste in music - insisting people in their native country only listen to "hip-hop or kiddy pop."
The band has scored both critical acclaim and commercial success in Britain, and Europe, but have failed to find similar fame in their own country.
Drummer Nathan Followill insists the music-buying public in the U.K. are more receptive to rock music - and slams Americans for being transfixed with teen pop acts.
He says, "Most music gets ignored in the States unless it's hip-hop or Hannah Montana or Disney music like the Jonas Brothers. Kiddy pop or hip-hop, that's pretty much what America is. You may turn on the radio and you hear maybe one out of 10 songs that you'd consider decent.
"The U.K. is more open to all kinds of music. The fans are just insane in the U.K. - they are music lovers. You have kids going to shows to see the bands, not going to a show to be seen there."

Huh?
Too effin' bad for them. People like to listen to what they like to listen to, and if it isn't Kings of Leon, so whaaaaat.

I do like some hip-hop but I tend to listen to rock and country more. I like some of the Kings of Leon's songs. But it's pretty stupid of them to say stuff like that.

For some reason, I was thinking that Kings of Leon were British. Oh well, my argument still stands.
But actually, there is a point to what he's saying. Who gets more airplay and media coverage here in this country? Britney and Kanye. Kanye and Britney, and all these chumps of that ilk.
Rap and hip-hop bores me. And Britney is just thigh candy.

I never understood the appeal of rap and hip-hop myself. Thigh candy?? I have to admit I'm not familiar with that term.

the thing is though, they assume all americans listen to miley cyrus, jonas bros, britney etc, but what they fail to realise perhaps is the vast majority of americans- though not all are kids or teens. so they are wrong to generalise and make assumptions.
as for kings of leon, i don't listen to their music because a) i am not familar with them and b) i no longer listen to the current music scene. i'd rather listen to the 70s, 80s and 90s classics than today's 'awful' music.

i think its more a matter of the mainstream media only feeding the american public the hippety hop and the britney drivel, and has nothing to do with what people actually want to hear.

You hit the nail right on the head.

Mainstream media wouldn't be feeding it to the public unless they were making money off of it, and that money comes from the public, so yeah, I'd say that they are generally putting out what the majority of most people want to hear.

great point indeed, although you could say also the music industry and all these corporate record companies are the ones signing these acts up and making as much money as they can by flouting their crap to the masses.

Everyone and their dog likes KOL here...I'm sick of hearing about them!! and that comment is just stupid!
I find interesting that he is whining about how US radio is all hip hop and kiddy pop. I thought I heard that the largest percentage of radio stations in the US are country, and we have at least four classic rock stations in West Michigan.

Wow, what a generalized statement especially considering that "Use Somebody" is #5 on Billboard. :o
