"The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" was in syndication in Plano, Texas in 1998 I think it was, and I watched it when I was living there. No wonder my I.Q. went from 190 to 165.

The movie was a good classic but let's face it the actors in the series were badly mismatched and the stories dorky.

Hey, it was a good show. Any show with Reta Shaw and Charles Nelson Reilly has to be funny.

I probably didn't seen The Ghost and Mrs. Muir since 1980 when I was 8 years old. When, Houston Texas used to air reruns of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I cannot believe you saw The Ghost and Mrs. Muir in Texas in 1998?

I thought The Ghost & Mrs Muir was a good show. It's certainly better than a lot of the rubbish you're expected to sit through now. I'd rather watch 'Ghost' re-runs any day.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir was trying to be another Bewitched only with a male ghost. It was first on NBC and then picked up for a final season on ABC. It ran two years. Even though you feel it was a bad show, the beautiful Hope Lange (from the lead in the orginal movie, Peyton Place) was nominated, and I believe she won, 2 emmys for her performance on the show. The rest of the cast was top notch as well. Reta Shaw (the housekeeper), Edward Mulhare (the ghost) and Charles Nelson Reilly(the landlord), seen occasionally on the X-files, rounded out the cast. I believe the concept and the writing were to blame for its unpopularity. That's all I can remember. I haven't seen it since it was on the air. I believe that was the '68 and '69 seasons.

The show did have a few faults, continiuity was bad and there are one or two episodes that were not up to standard.

This was the fault of the producers who tried to make it The Charles Nelson Reilly show. If they hadn't been so afraid that some romance might seep in it would have been fine.

Hope Lange and Edward Mulhare were perfect as the Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Their chemistry was unbeatable.
Hope Lange did win two emmys for the show and EM was nominated.

This is one of the best shows ever made.

Hi, guys!

I got 4 episodes of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir recently and it was one of the most enjoyable two hours I've spent watching Tv in a while.
All the cast members, including the kids were great, and Scruffy too (he always reminds me of Tintin's dog Snowy). The whole atmosphere of the show was wonderful, I felt like it was taking place in Ireland or someplace like that, esp with the Gaelic sounding music in the background.

The stories were good, though Hope Lange's character was too happy and smiling all the time, which was inappropriate when one episode had Clayton with a broken leg in her house and they're treating him like royalty, but in the meantime he's telling Hope Lange that he's going to sue her!! That's the only pet peeve I had about the show, and that's true with some other sitcoms too, the female characters in 50s and 60s shows are too nice when the situation calls for some yelling or harsh words.

Overall though watching these shows I haven't seen in 30 years was WONDERFUL! This is the type of show they should be broadcasting on TV Land, not the same old same old.

Where in Plano did you see this show? I live in Allen, the next city NE of there, and have Comcast cable, and I can't remember ever seeing it, especially around here. Plano doesn't have any of its own stations, as it's part of the DFW tv market.

Hi,
I live in the DFW and to my knowledge, gamm hasn't been shown here in years.
I loved the show. I saw in when it originally aired, first on NBC then ABC.

I miss shows that entertain me.

I just turned 40 yesterday (ouch!)! Anyways, my earliest television memories was watching this show, somehow the ghost Captian living in the attic appealed to me. I remember liking the special effects; And now that I recall, the dog did seemed to bother me.

Would love see this show again.

This was a great show. Charles Nelson Reilly practically stole the show. I wish everyone could live their lives like the people on the show. The world would be a better place.

The series was actually good in its first season on NBC, but then it transferred to ABC and they made it more jokey. Hope Lange won an Emmy award for the series as well.

I think everyone's two favorite episodes of this series must be the ones where they had a dream sequence where the Captain is alive and about to marry Carolyn. That would be the Christmas episode about the foundling and also an episode called "The Medicine Ball."

...but if the show was "bad", WHY did Hope Lange win TWO Emmies in a row (as "Best Actress In A Comedy") for playing "Carolyn Muir"??

I barely remember this show, although I saw all the episodes in syndication in the early 80s. It got a bunch of emmy nominations (although some snobs consider the years in which it ran a very poor period for sitcoms). Hope Lange beat Elizabeth Montgomery, Diahann Carroll and Barbara Feldon in 1969 and Elizabeth Montgomery and Marlo Thomas in 1970. I find it interesting that Lange wasn't nominated for her work in The New Dick Van Dyke Show in the early 70s.

G&MM wasn't that funny of a show (Charles Nelson Reilly was the only comedian in it really), but it aired at a time when there were a lot of shows on that were humor based but weren't really all that jokey (Courtship of Eddie's Father, My three Sons, Doris Day, Julia, Room 222, Family Affair, Mayberry RFD and several others). One coincidence about most of those shows is they were about single parents which I suppose contributed to them being more like dramadies than today's type of sitcom. Personally the storytelling quality of those shows made them superior to the more joke-driven and/or in your face sort of comedy that's generally populating the airwaves now.

Hey I loved that show... Yes it was silly but not unlike many of the fantasy 60s shows of that era...Gilligans Island, I dream Jeannie, Munsters, Green Acres, My favorite Martian.. need I go on? all ridicules... but charming and classic and wonderful ... pure escapism...
Is it any better than the garbage that we have to suffer through today like Surviver and Fear factor and Jerry Springer? heck yes!!!

350 channels and there's nothing on:)

For those of you who don't know, Howard Leeds was the producer on this show yep The Brady Bunch's Howard Leeds.
The music was by George Greeley of "My Favorite Martian"fame, they had meet and become friends on My Living Doll.
The last thing they worked on together was Small Wonder, by the by Howard tried to bring the show back with a new cast in the eighties.
Fox turned him down, sad he would have done a great job with his new treatment.

I have to be honest; the show never rocked my world, but I certainly wouldn't call it terrible. I think it tried to do too much--Topper and Bewitched were done already. However, any show that has Reta Shaw and Charles Nelson Reilly has to have some high points.
