Chris Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault today in Los Angeles in a deal with prosecutors. Brown was sentenced to probation and community service for beating then-girlfriend Rihanna in a February incident. He must also stay 50 yards away from Rihanna unless the two are present at the same event, in which case he must stay 10 yards away from her, and he is forbidden from contacting her in any way. The deal includes 180 days of community service such as trash removal in Virginia (where Brown resides), along with five years of supervised probation and a court-mandated 52-week domestic violence counseling program. (The singer had faced up to four years in prison if convicted.)

Rihanna was not present at the hearing until Brown left the courtroom, at which point she arrived and was given a copy of the judge's stay-away order for Brown. She made no statement. Brown will be formally sentenced on Aug. 5.

To me the most important part of this sentence is the 52-week domestic violence counseling program. That will do far more to keep him from re-offending than just jail time.

disgraceful sentence. what type of message especially does this send out to people, especially his young fans? that it is ok to beat up a female? that fool was lucky enough to be able to plead guilty, just so he could be let off the hook. brown should be behind bars, serving 3 years at least for assault. what he did to rihanna was nothing short of appalling. i gather the judge didn't see the photos and the terrible injuries she sustained after her beatdown by chris.

I am Very upset that he isnt serving ANY Jail time. I never liked him pre-beating & much don't care for him today.

i hope that if rihanna does release a single or album at the same time as chris's that her effort will trounce his, although it's great to know she has found the courage to ditch him. good on her i'd say! besides, he doesn't deserve someone as beautiful and worthy as rihanna.

F*ck that woman beater. His music sucks anyway LOL. If he goes to prison, he's gonna find out what getting beat up is like hahahahahahahahaha. I'm glad Rhianna wised up and left him. I wish i could get with her LOL. She's hot. If she was my girl, i'd never beat her.
