View Full Version : An SO Observation Involving Solomon

Over the past few months, we've had several new members join us. As more of one of the "seniors" here (in senority - not age! hehe) I've observed how these new members react to our dear ole Solomon and his posts. It's actually been a riot to watch unfold as it never changes. So to me, you really aren't a true SO member until you've gone thru the "Unofficial Hazing by Solomon" where you've at the very least mixed it up a bit with him about various shows (e.g. when I first joined I thought his views of King of Queens were so strange they were being posted as a joke) to smack down and drag 'em out on the Sports board. Now normally this wouldn't be funny, but it ALWAYS ends up the same where we all end up somehow understanding this crazy (in a good way) guy and getting a kick out of him! I mean, Sol could probably run for office someday!

So anyway, my real point being here, is sort of like an appreciation thread (although ya gotta know with Soloman it HAS to be a bit off kilter). And most importantly - it's like the old song, "You're Nobody Until Somebody Loves You" - it's like "You're Nobody Until Solomon Calls You Out"! ;)

So complete the poll and All Hail "Mixin' It Up and Still Makin' It Interesting After All These Years" Solomon!!

:yourock: :clap  :roper :bluesbros props:

you're absolutely right. back around 2003, he was exactly the way he is now, but most people didn't like him and usually responded to his threads giving him crap and throwing insults. now he's pretty much an icon here. he's just the kind of person you have to grow to understand. i can't help but laugh whenever i see a newish member barking at him for his silly comments, because they're going through the same thing the rest of the board did when he first became an active chit chat poster.

i took this picture just for him a few years ago while we were arguing and he said that i probably have ugly feet.

Good thread, Cat; and Sarah, if I was drinking soda when I saw your post, you'd owe me a keyboard.

Cat, you nailed it perfectly. Years ago, I was arguing with Solomon, or rather, he was calm, while I was all worked up. He sent me a PM saying something along the line of, "I'm only kidding, you know. I don't take any of this seriously." It was at that point that I realized I was being had. The joke was on me. He lights fires, sits back and watches the flames and laughs his head off. Solomon also has the thickest skin of anyone I know here. People have said things to him that would have made me crazy. He just tells the person, "You give me gas."

The coolest thing about Solomon is that he's funny without even trying. That's a quality that you either have, or you don't. It can't be learned. I think that causes jealousy among those who try to be funny but miss the mark. Solomon is also a personal friend of mine. There's more than meets the eye with this guy; and the few he lets in, know what I mean.

Here's to Solomon, and for tonight, Good Times is NOT a spin-off of Maude.

I've had the pleasure of arguing with Solomon on the Three's Company board a few times, he always won. I'll never forgive you for that Sol!! Ok, so I'm only kidding. I mean come on, you gotta love this guy, he's a great friend who will tell you like it is! ;)

I think I'm one of the few people here who has never had an argument with Solomon. I already knew who he was before I became a member and I always had fun just laughing at his humor and seeing other people's reactions to it. Then when I became a member and started posting on the sports board, we became friends. All I had to say was how much I hated the Eagles. Anyway, Sol's a great guy and SO definately wouldn't be the same without him. When the boards are slow, he always comes up with interesting topics to keep this place interesting. SO=Solomon Online.

I can quote it, but I could never bring myself to type it out in black and white! ;) DOH!!!

(I still don't see where he gets that Deacon is a wuss either! lol)

I was telling another member the other day that Solomon is the ONLY member here that can change his screen name to anything, and I'd still recognize right away who it is - with others, it mostly takes me a while, but not with Sol!

Same here. Plus, I registered a MONTH before Sol did, back in 2002. So I have -some- seniority over him. Not a lot, but still. No hazing for this chick, being I got here first. lol

He's the reason why I know that Good Times is INDEED a spinoff of a spinoff (ow, that makes my head hurt thinking about it).

I think my most memorable argument was with Brian Damage-lol He would tell me-"You don't know sH*T about TV shows so SHUT THE F*CK UP-LOL

The Good Times Debate is how me and Brian became friends after I mailed proof to his house that GT was not a spinoff

You told me-"You don't know sH*T about TV shows"

OMG, you really did that?! That's hilarious.

Anyway, I've never had a fight with Solomon, but then again, I'm more of a lurker anyway, lol. He seems like a cool guy :)

I registered about a month after he did, and as far as I can remember I have never had a disagreement with him.

I've gone toe to toe with Sol a few times mostly on the sports board. As I've gotten to know Sol better I've come to appreciate him. He certainly makes discussions more interesting, more lively, and even more fun. I do think he is a bit of an acquired taste if you know what I mean. He takes a little getting used to. But once your used to him it's kinda fun to have a good discussion (or was that argument?) with him! Bring it on Sol!

I have to admit that I haven't read that many of Solomon's threads or posts. The few that I have read have been entertaining. However, I don't really know them man that well and have never had an argument with him.

I have to admit it took me awhile to get Sol and his sense of humor. Once I did, he never fails to make me laugh. His rants about McDonald's, Subway and other food chains always have me rolling. Here's to you, Sol.

sol's a cool bloke. for me, there have been times in the past where we haven't seen eye to eye on certain topics but it was all for a bit of fun. plus he is so funny. sol is quite the entertainer; likewise his rants on food especially are just hilarious. i can only imagine what a laugh he would be if i were to meet him, face to face in real life.

LOL - yup, if I need a good argument (and hey, sometimes it's fun to argue) Sol's the man for me!!

ROFL about Brian's comments since I thought the EXACT same thing and posted similar stuff, although not those exact words.

I just love it though when I sign on to the active thread board, and there's either a fastfood chain rant thread going or Sol's calling Wreckless or FSU out again. It just makes me smile. It's like visiting grandma's house and knowing that they'll be warm homemade cookies ready.

Solomon irked me at first. I even had him on my Ignore User list for awhile. Now, I love him and can't picture SO without him.

My only complaint about him now is he stopped doing his "Solomon's Weekly Rant". Remember that?

Solomon is, and always has been THE MAN!!! There's very few men out there that I'd say that about, since I haven't had many great male role models in my life, but he's one of the few I can say that about. You're not alone Sonny, I've never really had any real big arguments with SOL, just a few minor skirmishes on the sports board. I'm a very laid back person though, and tend to not let internet stuff get to me. It is fun though watching SOL break in the newbies. Whenever they come to me for advice about what to do regarding him, I just tell them to take it with a grain of salt, and realize that most have been through Sol's hazing as someone else put it. I don't know Solomon all that well, but have learned to really like the guy, and I'm glad this thread was made for him. Nice job Cathie!!

Only once, he was talking smack about me and my NFL fan faithfulness on another board and a couple people contacted me about it. We got into it a little bit, but then it just basically came down to him just trying to say that I only posted occasionally on the sports board. That's it though, and I've argued with a lot of people that I became cool w/ later on (i.e. Kyle (wreckless). Sol's the homie though, just copped four eps of ODAAT from him.
