Remember when Fresh Prince dominated the schedule? Now it's only on twice a night and not on weekends, lol.

I'm not a fan of George Lopez or The Nanny. However, Family Matters, Home Improvement and Fresh Prince are good shows. I like the schedule for what it is. They don't seem to be going overboard with one particular show.

I remember a time when Nick at Nite aired more than five programs, but still, not bad for the shows they have.

Geez... again?! Obviously doing insanely well, this is the THIRD marathon in FOUR weeks. Not even George Lopez gets that.

I still can't get into the show but I'll give it another shot.

and ANOTHER marathon is scheduled next Sunday. This show is in danger of getting old fast.

They are also airing an all-night marathon next Sunday (6/14). Make that 4th marathon in 5 weeks. It probably won't be too long before we get a week-long event.

That's amazing. Never would I have thought The Nanny would be this huge for NAN, and I'm a big fan of the show. It's clearly a runaway hit for NAN. 4 marathons in 5 weeks?

And they're testing it out at 9:30 - I'm thinking we'll see Home Improvement gone from 9pm soon. I bet Everybody Hates Chris will take over the slot.

I prefer the Nanny over Home Improvement since it's not centered around one character like HI is with Tim Taylor

Coming in JULY to Nick at Nite:

Twentieth Television has sold all seven seasons of comedy Malcolm in the Middle to cable network Nick at Nite for a Sunday, July 5 premiere. The show will air on Nick in primetime Sun-Thurs at 8 p.m.

Yes, this means Nick at Nite is getting the 8pm hour back from Nickelodeon. More to come tomorrow on our blog! Stay tuned!

PRESS RELEASE:

Nick at Nite Moves Up One Hour to 8 PM, Giving Families an Added Hour of Great Prime-Time Programming With Addition of Malcolm in the Middle Beginning Sunday, July 5

Twentieth Television's Complete Seven-Season Library of Award-Winning Series Joins Top-Rated Lineup of George Lopez, The Nanny and Everybody Hates Chris

NEW YORK, June 8 -- Numerous research studies indicate that American families today are staying home more frequently and more than ever are looking for entertainment they can watch together. In response, beginning Sunday, July 5, Nickelodeon will permanently move the 9 p.m. start time of its Nick at Nite block to 8 pm (Sundays-Thursdays, ET/PT), providing contemporary families an additional hour of great programming. Marking the change, the award-winning series Malcolm in the Middle will join the Nick at Nite schedule on July 5 at 8 p.m. Nickelodeon has acquired the complete seven-season library (151 episodes) of the series from Twentieth Television.

"We have conducted a great deal of research with kids and families and two things that we hear continuously are that they want to spend more time together and that watching television is one of their favorite ways of making that happen," said Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group. "By starting Nick at Nite at 8 p.m., and adding another terrific comedy series like Malcolm in the Middle, we will serve them further and build upon the great success we've had with contemporary family comedies."

Malcolm in the Middle, which centers on teen genius Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) and his dysfunctional family, will join Nick at Nite's roster of hit family favorites such as George Lopez, Everybody Hates Chris (beginning in September), Home Improvement and The Nanny. Malcolm in the Middle originally ran from 2000 to 2006 on Fox and has garnered numerous accolades including five Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award and a Peabody Award.

In addition to these contemporary off-network comedies, Nick at Nite this summer will add the new stop-motion animated original series Glenn Martin, DDS, from Michael Eisner's Tornante Company. The series, starring Kevin Nealon, Catherine O'Hara and Judy Greer, follows a beleaguered dentist and his family who trade in the suburbs for a life on the road. Crisscrossing the country, the Martins are beset by an array of colorful locals and crazy situations, ranging from Las Vegas to Amish Country and beyond.

Year-to-date, Nick at Nite is the number-one ranked cable network in total day among both Adults 18-49 and Women 18-49 and is on track to be the number-one ranked cable network with Women 18-49 for the sixth consecutive year. In 2009, Nick at Nite is delivering year-over-year double-digit growth of 14% among Women 18-49. (Source: Nielsen Media Research 12/29/08-5/31/09 (Live+7 through 5/17/09, Live+Same day 5/18/09-5/31/09).

Additionally, Nick at Nite finished May as the number-one basic cable network among Women 18-49 and the number-two network among Adults 18-49, only behind TNT (source: NMR, 4/27/09-5/31/09).

About Malcolm in the Middle

Created and executive produced by Emmy Award-winning writer Linwood Boomer (Writer, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Night Court, Silver Spoons; Actor, Little House on the Prairie), this inventive half-hour series is seen through the eyes of Malcolm (Muniz), a regular kid trying to navigate his way through life despite the various obstacles thrown in his way -- a complete misunderstanding of girls, an eclectic group of classmates and the constant burden of masterminding plans to get himself and his brothers either into or out of trouble.

Although Malcolm has a genius IQ, he cannot seem to make any sense of the opposite sex, much less his embarrassing family. Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) is the outspoken, opinionated Mom, and her creative punishments and tough-as-nails approach always prevent the boys from slipping one past her. Hal (Bryan Cranston), a dad who is a certified legend in his own mind, is perfectly content to let Lois "wear the pants," but often finds himself creating more chaos than his four boys combined. Reese (Justin Berfield) has mastered the art of a perfect blank stare, but has made up for his lack of intelligence with deviance. Francis (Christopher Kennedy Masterson), Malcolm's oldest and favorite brother, has grown accustomed to life away from the family, whether it's at a military academy or a dude ranch. And then there's Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan), who just doesn't know any better than to look up to his brothers. Hopefully, he'll catch on before it's too late.

Malcolm in the Middle is a Regency Television production, and is distributed by Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.

Interesting pickup(came out of nowhere?). and WOW, at N@N getting the 8pm hour. Think it's showing that N@N is outperforming Nick now.

WOW! I had a feeling that Malcom would come to NAN at some point. Getting the 8pm hour is shocking too. They clearly are doing VERY well. I bet it will work well as a transition show, leading in to HI. NAN sure is the opposite of TV Land!

Will it still be on FX?

Malcolm is certainly designed to be paired with Chris, as both are single camera comedies. It's a great companion for Chris. I will talk about what this means for FX on the blog, that's the more to come ;)

Yeah, Malcolm and Chris will go great together. Hopefully we'll see both stay in the 8pm hour, though.

I'm guessing they'll split one Malcolm and then one Chris once Fall comes around. Malcom at 8 and Chris at 830?

Although I think N@N is straying away from what they used to be and are becoming a little bit too dependent on recent shows, I like how their scheduling is consistent and they are not all over the place like it used to be.

They have a good variety of shows that get pretty even amount of airings unlike in the past with Cosby, Roseanne, or Fresh Prince being the only shows on.

Who thinks they'll be getting the rights to Two and a Half Men sometime soon, or would it fit better on TBS?

Two and a Half Men would fit better on TBS over NAN. Of course isn't 2.5 Men coming to FX in 2010 or 11.

Anyways this is great news I love Malcolm in the Middle. Now I'll have something to watch at 8 when nothing else is on.

Here's my prediction for Nick at Nite's new schedule in July.

6:00am This time will be given back to Nick since there losing an hour.
8:00pm Malcolm in the Middle
8:30pm Malcolm in the Middle
9:00pm Home Improvement
9:30pm Home Improvement
10:00pm George Lopez
10:30pm George Lopez
11:00pm The Nanny
11:30pm The Nanny
12:00am Family Matters
12:30am Family Matters
1:00am Fresh Prince of Bel Air
1:30am Fresh Prince of Bel Air
2:00am Malcolm in the Middle
2:30am Malcolm in the Middle
3:00am George Lopez
3:30am George Lopez
4:00am Home Improvement
4:30am Home Improvement
5:00am Family Matters
5:30am The Nanny

What do you think?

Brent88
06-08-2009, 03:09 PM
8-9 Malcolm
9-10 Home Improvement
10-11 George Lopez
11-12 Nanny
12-1 Family Matters
1-2 George Lopez
2-3 Malcolm
3-4 Fresh Prince
4-5 Nanny
5-6:30 Family Matters

Not really sure about 2-6 but I feel like 9-2 will be the same as now as it seems Lopez/Nanny/Family Matters are all huge. I think Home Improvement is going to be gradually phased out but for now will stay at 9. I see it going to TV Land by the fall.

Malcolm can't air on weekends? So I guess it'll be similar to now, a lot of Family Matters/Nanny.

clj2
06-08-2009, 03:25 PM
They may be getting 8-9PM as they are launching the Nick Jr./TEENick blocks on other networks and of course have NickToons as well. FPoBA will probably be phased out eventually, as it's on The N/TEENick and is sort of buried now on NAN. They could easily remove it and encore Malcom.

I don't really know about how EHC will do on there, it'll be sort of different. I don't really care for the show.

Pavan
06-08-2009, 03:32 PM
I think Malcolm can air on weekends, but Nick at Nite doesn't program at 8pm on Fri-Sat. So it would have to air post 10pm.

JulieSomoski
06-08-2009, 03:37 PM
I don't think we'll see Malcolm air anywhere besides 8pm for July. They could air it at 5 or 6am, though.

One Chris comes, we might see something like Malcolm at 8pm, Chris 8:30-9:30, and Home Improvement 9:30, with everything else staying the same. I just don't see Malcolm or Chris doing well anywhere besides early primetime.

Pavan
06-08-2009, 03:39 PM
Chris will defintely air for an hour, not just a half-hour.

nickandmore
06-08-2009, 03:50 PM
I could see September looking like:

8-9pm Malcolm in the Middle
9-10pm Everybody Hates Chris (with Glenn Martin, DDS on Tue @ 9pm)
10-11pm George Lopez
11pm-12am The Nanny
12-1am Family Matters
1-2am George Lopez
2-3am Malcolm in the Middle
3-4am Home Improvement (this is/was suppose to go to TV Land at some point, and with the new shows coming to N@N - I see this show getting burried in the overnights)
4-5am The Nanny
5-6:30am Family Matters

I could see both Home Improvement and Fresh Prince being really cut or just off the schedule by September.

Brent88
06-08-2009, 04:06 PM
By September I see this:

8-9 Malcolm
9-10 Chris
10-11 George Lopez
11-12 Nanny
12-1 Family Matters
1-2 George Lopez
2-3 Malcolm
3-4 Chris
4-5 Nanny
5-6:30 Family Matters

With Fresh Prince and Home Improvement gone

If Malcolm airs on Friday/Saturday I don't see where it would go since I can't see it doing well late at night and 10-1 is locked in for sure(George, Nanny, FM). Unless they could get the 9pm hour.

clj2
06-08-2009, 04:07 PM
I think FPoBA will be gone in July and replaced with Malcom encores. Again, I don't really see what purpose it is serving anymore.

I think Malcom in the Middle will do well for them. Chris, I'm not so sure of, but I think this fits well with what they're wanting. I really like them getting the 8PM hour (and remember there's 6-6:30AM also).

JulieSomoski
06-08-2009, 05:50 PM
Wow, definitely a lot of different schedules here. With NAN's current track record, both Malcolm and Chris will be hits. I see Home Improvement downsized, but I don't see it gone entirely. It could definitely go to TV Land by September, though, especially if Roseanne and Married with Children are still on the schedule

11-12AM The Nanny
12-1AM Family Matters
1-2AM George Lopez
2-3AM Fresh Prince

4-5AM The Nanny
5-6AM Malcom in the Middle
6:00AM Family Matters

The schedule might look like this in September.
8PM Malcolm in the Middle
9PM Everybody Hates Chris
10PM George Lopez
11PM The Nanny
12AM Family Matters
1AM George Lopez
2AM Fresh Prince
3AM Home Improvement
4AM The Nanny
5AM Malcolm in the Middle
6AM Home Improvement

I wouldn't be surprised if Everybody Hates Chris bombs and Home Improvement returns to the 9PM hour within a month, it can't even get two million viewers for new episodes. Of course with Nick at Nite's track record lately they have the Midas touch, so who knows.

This has to be one of the biggest NAN shockers of the 2000s. I know they hated dumping Roseanne, I can only imagine what it could do on there now. I wonder what Mad About You (it used to come on a local after The Nanny) and Murphy Brown could do now given the way Nanny is doing. Honestly, I thought it'd last a week or so then be shoved to 3AM on TV Land or something, but obviously this isn't the case, and I applaud them for giving it a chance even though I still can't get in to it.

This is totally random, I know, but has anyone else ever thought that Step By Step would be a good pick-up for NAN? It's all 90s, like most of their shows, and seems to fit what they're after, but it may be too old now with shows like MITM coming. This show hasn't really had much exposure and ABCFamily just airs it at 9am. I'm starting to think test patterns could get them 2 million - LOL!

I still think they should have given Growing Pains a chance. It was on for like one week and then completely off the schedule. If I'm not mistaken, aren't they still paying for the rights to the show? If so, shouldn't they use it, ever!?

I thought the same thing - I thought NAN would give The Nanny its 2 weeks, then dump one of its airings, move it around, then dump it altogether. It just isn't a syndication hit, never has been. Good for The Nanny, though. NAN is definitely onto something.

NAN still has rights to Murphy Brown and Mad About You, right? They should try putting them back on the schedule for summer, see how they do. Mad About You would probably do well if given another chance.

TV Land/Nick-at-Nite terminated the contracts for Murphy Brown, Mad About You, Designing Women, and Night Court at the end of 2008.

If my memory serves correct, Growing Pains lasted about 3 months on Nick-at-Nite (from about mid-Feb to mid-May 2007). They were airing it on The N at 11am/11:30am for a while, but that is no longer happening.

I have seen the Nick at Nite July schedule. It has some surprise time changes. Looking at the predictions here, no one is really close. I can't say anymore until I get the clear to post it. No hints. Sunday nights 1-3am are TBD, so I won't post it anyway until that is filled in. Hope to post by Monday on the blog.

As for some highlights, there will be an all-night SpongeBob event (I think his birthday?) for two nights and The N original series The Assistants will encore the premiere on Nick at Nite.

I do wonder how shows like "Mad About You," "Murphy Brown," and "Growing Pains" would have done if they were aired when N@N was actually being run well like it was now. But they came on back in the day where they had to hit big immediately or they were benched, the same way the TV Land clowns operate now.

Very interesting. Perhaps Home Improvement will be gone? Maybe Family Matters will be back in primetime? I think we might see The Nanny or FM going to 9pm.

I don't really get why so many have Home Improvement in the morgue....sure, it isn't their highest rated show (seems to be doing better than FM), but it must be doing OK. I think it is a good transition show, maybe just one airing at 9pm and something else at 9:30pm. I wouldn't touch 10pm-12am as both are doing well, but I wonder if George Lopez is moving timeslots? That would be a big change, since it's been at 10pm since it launched pretty much. Or.....maybe the return of summer marathons?

I was thinking what if FM and HI switch. HI goes to Midnight and FM to 9pm. I can't see George Lopez moving so the other possibility is Nanny and HI switching, but it seems to me FM just isn't really a Midnight show and might do even better earlier on while HI may not be doing as good as it could be, while Nanny seems to be doing extremely well so it wouldn't really be a good idea to move it.

That's what I'm thinking as well, maybe a schedule of 9pm Family Matters, 10pm George Lopez, 11pm The Nanny, 12am Home Improvement. Sounds logical to me.

I agree maybe they will switch Home Improvement and Family Matters.

Or, another possibility could be:

9PM-10PM : The Nanny
10PM-11PM: George Lopez
11PM - 12PM: Family Matters
12AM-1AM: Home Improvement

I was also thinking that. I think the big problem they want to fix is Family Matters at midnight, because FM is definitely not a midnight show. Also notice how in their last press release, they didn't mention Family Matters as one of their top-rated shows (they used The Nanny instead). I'm thinking ratings for FM have fallen off a bit at midnight, while The Nanny is succeeding.

I think they really like sticking to their double-takes, though. It seems to be working for them. And wasn't Home Improvement doing better at midnight when it aired there before? I think the only show that will be keeping its slot is George Lopez. The others will probably be shifted in someway.

I guess it's possible but I really can't see N@N breaking up the hour long blocks which they've had for a long time now(well over a year for sure).

I still think it'll be FM or HI switching probably(possibly HI leaving all together) and not The Nanny. I think it would be dumb to move it(especially so soon) when it's working there apparently.

Yeah, I'm betting on the FM/HI switch as well. Although, with The Nanny doing so well, they may be thinking that it'll do similar numbers at 9pm, and will be able to jumpstart the night better. And FM was doing well at 11pm as well. I don't know-lol

I'm really looking forward to finding out what will happen. We've all been speculating and it's so difficult to try and pick out how N@N is thinking it.

If the Nanny is getting good ratings, it would be risky to change its timeslot but maybe Home Improvement has been doing worse and they realize that Family Matters could do better than the numbers it's getting at midnight.

Any chance of the block party summer marathons like in the old days? (I realize it's not happening just wish it would).

Yup, a one-hundred episode marathon airing all weekend on Nick (Friday, July 17 - Sunday, July 19) to celebrate his tenth birthday.

I guess it's possible but I really can't see N@N breaking up the hour long blocks which they've had for a long time now(well over a year for sure).

They have had shows airing for a half-hour only from 8:30PM-9:00PM (Full House and Family Matters), but other than that, they've had hour blocks all the time. I'll say late-2007/early-2008 was when they moved to hour blocks. I remember Nick at Nite being very inconsistent in 2007, even after HI and GL joined. They also had a lot of marathons in '08, but were fairly consistent other than that.

I hope to see the official July schedule soon! :)

maybe they will junk this hour block format and have 1 show every half hour so they can fit every show in before midnight, especially since 8pm is now N@N territory..

8-9PM Malcom in the Middle
9:00 - HI
9:30 - FM
10:00 - GL
10:30 - Nanny
11:00 - GL
11:30 - Nanny

12:00-1:00 - Malcolm
1:00-2:00 - Nanny
2:00-3:00 - GL
3:00-4:00 - HI
4:00-5:00 - FM
5:00-6:30 - 3 Random Shows from the schedule

clj2

So I guess everyone else is just as stumped about July as I am. I don't know what they could move or change that would be different than what we predicted. Maybe they're going to borrow something from TheN/TEENick for a special airing? Movies?

I'm not ruling out the idea of Home Improvement being entirely gone and going to TV Land PRIME next month. Hey, we were told drastic, so I'm just guessing. We know for sure it's moving at some point.

WOW - clearly The Nanny is doing very well for the network. How NAN managed to pull this one off is beyond me, considering The Nanny has never been a hit in syndication, but good for them.

I think one reason is like with the economy like it is, I read that romance novels had a spike in sales during the bad economy. I think people just want something with romance in it, and the Nanny is as romantic comedy as it gets for a N@N sitcom.

I love the Nanny
