I'm not sure. I would hate to see him take your money and then have him turn out to be a fraud. Still, if he's the real deal, he might really be offering you the chance of a lifetime. If there was only someway he could prove that he is on the level. Sorry, I know this isn't much help.

i am torn mike. in some ways he seems credible but theres always a chance hes a good con. i guess with any type of trading you are taking a chance, the online world can have some murky waters . i've never had any real bad dealings thus far, the only bad thing that ever happened was almost ten years ago in 2000 and 2001 when i sent the complete series of night court i had on vhs to this guy who said he'd transfer it on vcd for me. well guess what? he took the tapes and took a walk.
I bought something online once and someone got a hold of my credit card number and began to rack up all these charges. Since then, I haven't bought anything online.

Since you're the one who has been communicating with this guy, as little as you know about him, you know more than I know. So I think the only thing I can tell you is to trust your gut instincts on this one. It really worried at first that you go no hits on him on google. But the more I thought about it I think if this guy was bad news you would have likely got a whole bunch of hits on him. Those kinds of people tend to leave a long trail of complaints etc. behind them. Anyway you've communicated with this guy and did your homework (or at least tried to) so now I think your just going to have to trust your gut instinct. Sorry I Couldn't be more help.

I met a guy on a message board a few weeks ago who says he has deleted scenes from the 1947 version of miracle on 34th street. in case you don't already know, i LOVE that movie so this would be the ultimate find for me. he says he has a 16mm print of the film uncut. he claims to have come across it when he worked as an archivist at SAG (screen actors guild.) i tried researching him, i googled his email address, name and username and came up with nothing. i don't think he has a history of trading though anyway, like maybe this would be a one time thing for him and he doesn't do this usually. i haven't been able to contact him for about a week, which is probably a good thing cause its given me time to think as i tend to be impulsive. re-reading his emails he does seem credible. he described some of the deleted scenes that i could verify, as i own the stills. but then again he could have seen stills of deleted scenes too. he also doesn't seem to be money oriented, he took a long time to address the issue of money and even offered to just send me the 16mm to borrow and view on an escrow basis (not sure what that means)but i do not have the proper equipment. so what do you all think? i don't mean to come off gullible, i'm usually the biggest skeptic out there but this could be the opportunity of a lifetime.
I know you are a big fan of that movie but I think you should just forget it. Maybe someone who has seen the movie with the deleted scenes could tell you as to if this guy is credible or not?
Ask him what scenes there are that is deleted?
But I don't think you should do it.

we left off discussing using a professional transfer service which can charge a couple hundred or possibly more. not money i have to throw around right now, given my current problems. last time we talked he was going to call multiple companies and get the best quote so thats where i am now.

thats awful mike, i'm sorry that happened to you. that happened to my husbands late wife, she was suffering from lung cancer, and once when she went to the emergency room the admitting nurse stole her soc. sec. no. and used it to open credit card accounts or something. now thats the lowest of low to do that to someone who is dieing.

I wouldn't trust him unless he could prove who he is. There are just too many scammers out there.

My mom works in a nursing home and several people over the years have been caught stealing from the residents. Absolutely sickening! Some people have no shame or morals.

to update, i'm going to go through with it as we agreed to do cash on delivery so it sounds pretty safe. i've seen the movie a million times but recently i've been putting some scenes in slo-mo (ones that presumably have been cut) and when the picture starts to fade into the next scene, when slowed down and looked at carefully it is obvious these scenes continue and don't end there. the screen fades into the next scene just as the actor is about to open their mouth to say something else. but when you watch it in full speed you would never notice.
lol no ones interested in this other than me but i'm bored at this hour so thought i'd type it! i'm so excited and can't wait to see this! don't know why these studios don't use these deleted scenes for dvd extras or even restore them to the movies themselves. i think particularly with older films, if the scrapped footage still exists they should readd it, it would breath new life and interest into these movies i think. i think it would be like watching a whole new film.
i don't think its altering the directors vision either, as the director directed these scenes as well, just were cut most likely for time constraint. i remember warner brothers considered adding the scarecrows extended dance back into the wizard of oz for its last release but at the last minute nixed it, i think they should have!

It's never a good idea to use USPS for a C.O.D.
Reasons why:
The postal service will accept a personal check for payment even if it has more bounce than an over-inflated basketball.
UPS accepts money order only, no cash, personal check, certified check etc...
If the item is insured and the postal services damages it, They keep the item after settling the claim and try to sell it to recoup their losses.
UPS allows you to keep the item after settling any claims.

^^ thank you for providing this info. i had no idea. i've never done a cod before. but it looks like this venture will be a no go afterall. it will be $630 to transfer this, and that is too rich for my blood.

I'd chat up the guy a bit more before taking on the deal. You probably know that movie forwards and backwards.
Here's one way to make sure he's legit - ask him about one of the supposed deleted scenes, then have him describe the scene following it (which you already know about).

good idea! i just emailed him a question about it. i'll see if what he says meshes with what i know. i own over 100 photos of this movie and many of the stills i've compiled are of deleted scenes. although i'm content with my collection, to see a moment captured in a picture is one thing, to see it come to life and here what the actual dialogue was and how it was acted is a completely different experience. i mean you look at these photos and read the brief studio captions (if any)and you imagine how it was played out, it must be weird to see it in motion - is it what you thought?

Great, he suggests that and you read his and not mine.
