New York (Monday, May 18, 2009) Peter Rice, Chairman, Entertainment; and Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, today unveiled the FOX primetime schedule for the 2009-2010 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at New York City Center.

"As the No.1 network for the last five years, FOX is the first place viewers go to connect with the stories and characters they love," said Rice. "With next year's slate of distinctive shows, we're continuing to invest in creativity to give viewers the rich, emotional experience they can only get on television."

Reilly added, "The strategic moves we made last year to build off of our biggest assets are paying off. We've created stability and consistently strong performance across the week. Next season, we're bringing back two top-rated sophomore dramas and using our hits to introduce a broad and compelling slate of new shows that will make our air even more vibrant and alive."

After a special preview event airing Tuesday, May 19 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), GLEE, the distinctive new comedy from Ryan Murphy ("Nip/Tuck") starring Jane Lynch ("The 40 Year Old Virgin") and newcomers Matthew Morrison (Broadway's "Hairspray"), Lea Michele ("Spring Awakening") and Cory Monteith ("Kyle XY"), will enter its freshman year this fall. Combining biting humor with a soundtrack of hit music from past to present, the inventive series follows an optimistic high school teacher who against all odds attempts to restore McKinley High's fading Glee Club to its former glory, while helping a group of underdogs realize their true star potential.

Two additional new comedies will premiere this fall. From the producers of FAMILY GUY, comes THE CLEVELAND SHOW. The new Sunday night animated comedy follows everyone's favorite soft-spoken FAMILY GUY neighbor, CLEVELAND BROWN (Mike Henry), who moves with his son back to his hometown in Virginia and settles down with his high school sweetheart and her unruly kids. Copy/pasted from The Futon Critic BROTHERS, starring Michael Strahan ("FOX NFL Sunday") and Daryl "Chill" Mitchell ("Ed," "Veronica's Closet"), is a new half-hour comedy about a former big-city NFL hot shot who returns home to his family and his mother's house to get his life back on track.

On Saturday, Nov. 7 (11:00 PM-Midnight ET/PT), late night will never be the same when Emmy Award winner Wanda Sykes returns to FOX to host THE WANDA SYKES SHOW (working title). The irreverent Saturday late-night series will feature Sykes' outspoken comedic perspective on current events along with topical, high-energy roundtable discussions.

The new event drama, HUMAN TARGET, premieres with a special preview Sunday, Jan. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) following the NFC Divisional Playoff game. HUMAN TARGET is a full-throttle, action-packed thrill ride from executive producers McG ("Terminator Salvation") and Simon West ("Con Air," "Tomb Raider"). Based on the popular DC Comics graphic novel and starring Mark Valley (FRINGE), Chi McBride ("Pushing Daisies") and Academy Award nominee Jackie Earle Haley ("Watchmen"), the series follows CHRISTOPHER CHANCE (Valley), a unique private contractor who will stop at nothing even if it means becoming a human target to keep his clients alive.

The other drama for midseason is PAST LIFE, a fast-paced emotional thriller inspired by the book "The Reincarnationist." The series stars Kelli Giddish ("All My Children") as a gifted psychologist and Nicholas Bishop ("Home and Away") as a former NYPD detective who work together to explore and unravel mysteries that must be solved in both the past and the present.

One new comedy is scheduled to premiere in midseason. From three-time Emmy Award winner Todd Holland ("Malcolm in the Middle"), the non-traditional family comedy SONS OF TUCSON stars Tyler Labine ("Reaper") as a charming but wayward schemer hired by three young brothers whose father is in prison.

Summer sensation SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE moves to the fall with its sixth season. Hosted by Cat Deeley and featuring renowned judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, the original dance competition series will continue to inspire and amaze viewers as dancers skilled in styles ranging from hip-hop to ballroom compete to be named America's Favorite Dancer.

It was also announced that the eighth season of 24 will return to the FOX schedule with a two-night, four-hour premiere as part of a special extended primetime on Sunday, Jan. 17 (9:00-11:00 PM ET/PT), immediately following the premiere of HUMAN TARGET. The next installment of the Emmy Award-winning series starring Kiefer Sutherland will unfold in New York City, amidst the shadows of the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations.

Other FOX series returning in 2009-2010 include: AMERICAN DAD, AMERICAN IDOL, AMERICA'S MOST WANTED, BONES, COPS, DOLLHOUSE, FAMILY GUY, FRINGE, HELL'S KITCHEN, HOUSE, KITCHEN NIGHTMARES, LIE TO ME, THE SIMPSONS and 'TIL DEATH. 2009-2010 FOX PRIMETIME SCHEDULE

NEW SERIES SYNOPSES

The following new comedies will premiere this fall on FOX:

GLEE

McKinley High School's Glee Club used to be at the top of the show choir world, but years later, it has turned into a haven for misfits and social outcasts. But at McKinley, things for the Glee Club are about to change. From Ryan Murphy, the creator of "Nip/Tuck," comes GLEE, an uplifting comedy musical series with biting humor that features a soundtrack of hit music from past to present. The show follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to refuel his own passion for singing while reinventing the school's glee club and challenging a group of underdogs to realize their star potential. WILL SCHUESTER (Matthew Morrison) has offered to take on the Herculean task of restoring McKinley's Glee Club to its former glory with the help of fellow teacher and germaphobe EMMA PILLSBURY (Jayma Mays). It's a tall order when the brightest stars of the club include KURT (Chris Colfer), a nerdy soprano with a flair for the dramatic; MERCEDES (Amber Riley), a dynamic diva-in-training who refuses to sing back-up; ARTIE (Kevin McHale), a geeky guitarist who spends more time avoiding bullies than chasing girls; and TINA (Jenna Ushkowitz), an awkward girl who needs to suppress her stutter before she can take center stage. Will's only hope lies with two true talents: RACHEL BERRY (Lea Michele), a perfectionist firecracker who is convinced that show choir is her ticket to stardom; and FINN HUDSON (Cory Monteith), the popular high school quarterback with movie star looks and a Motown voice who must protect his reputation with his holier-than-thou girlfriend and head cheerleader, QUINN (Dianna Agron), and his arrogant football teammate, PUCK (Mark Salling). Driven by his secret past, Will is determined to do whatever it takes to make Glee great again, even though everyone around him thinks he's nuts. He's out to prove them all wrong from his tough-as-nails wife TERRI SCHUESTER (Jessalyn Gilsig) to McKinley's scheming cheerleading coach SUE SYLVESTER (Jane Lynch) to an ber-hip world that thinks jazz hands and sequined tuxedos litter the road to infamy rather than pave the way to Hollywood dreams.

(Kevin Michael Richardson). Many years ago, Cleveland was a high school student madly in love with a beautiful girl named DONNA (Sanaa Lathan). Much to his dismay, his love went unrequited, and Donna wound up marrying another man. Cleveland once told Donna he would always love her, and if this man ever done her wrong, he'd be there when she called. Well, this man done her wrong. Donna's husband ran off, leaving Donna with a teenage daughter and a young son. Now she's open to Cleveland and has offered him another chance at love. Unattached after the Loretta-Quagmire debacle and true to his word, Cleveland joyously reunites with Donna, and he and Cleveland Jr. move to Virginia to join their new family. Once in Virginia, there are a few surprises in store for Cleveland, including ROBERTA (Reagan Gomez-Preston), a rebellious new stepdaughter; RALLO (Henry), his new 5-year-old stepson who loves the ladies; and a collection of neighbors that includes a loudmouth redneck, LESTER (Richardson); a hipster wanna-be, HOLT (guest voice Jason Sudeikis); and a religious pair of talking bears, TIM (Seth MacFarlane) and his wife ARIANNA (guest voice Arianna Huffington).

BROTHERS

Starring Michael Strahan ("FOX NFL Sunday") and Daryl "Chill" Mitchell ("Ed," "Veronica's Closet"), BROTHERS is a new half-hour comedy about a former NFL hot shot who learns that even though you can always go home again, the trip back might be tougher than you think. MIKE TRAINOR (Strahan) seemingly has it all he's a good-looking, wealthy and recently retired NFL player living the high-life in New York City, but he's about to get sidelined. When Mike gets a phone call from his MOM (CCH Pounder, "The Shield") who orders him home to Houston, he quickly realizes the more his life has changed, the more his family has stayed the same. His brother CHILL (Daryl "Chill" Mitchell), whose life was altered drastically after a car accident left him in a wheelchair, is struggling to keep his restaurant afloat with the help of his loudmouth associate, ROSCOE (Colton Dunn, "MADtv"). The dynamics between Mike and Chill are the same as when they were kids, and their sibling rivalry hasn't lessened with age. If they can stop their bickering, put aside their differences and learn to be teammates, the brothers might just turn out to be each other's biggest asset. Copy/pasted from The Futon Critic Wedged between Mike and Chill are their parents. Their father, whom everyone refers to as COACH (Carl Weathers, "Rocky"), is the local high school football coach and the conservative, opinionated alpha male of his clan. Coach thinks he runs the show, but really it's Mom who calls the shots. Saucy, stern and a schemer, she is the mastermind of the family. And when she learns that Mike's business manager took off with all his money, she orchestrates a plan to keep Mike in Houston, save Chill's restaurant and bring the family back together under one roof again all without anyone realizing what she's up to. Mom's plan helps Mike realize that his family however dysfunctional they may be is the only family he's got. HUMAN TARGET

It takes a brave, selfless man to make himself a "human target" in order to save the lives of those in danger. Based on the popular DC Comics graphic novel, HUMAN TARGET is a full-throttle action drama centered on CHRISTOPHER CHANCE (Mark Valley, FRINGE), a unique private contractor/security guard hired to protect. Call him what you like, because for Chance, it's about one thing only: saving his clients' lives. When there is an unusual or imminent threat that can't be solved through "normal" means of protection, Chance is hired to completely integrate himself into his clients' lives to become the human target. If you're a corporate manager whose disgruntled employee has gone violently off the deep end, Chance is your new auditor. If you're the president of a bank who's been tipped off to a potential heist, Chance is your unassuming bank teller. During each job, Chance, assisted by his business partner WINSTON (Chi McBride, "Pushing Daisies") and hired gun GUERRERO (Jackie Earle Haley, "Watchmen"), puts himself directly in the line of fire as he races against time to save his client, while unraveling the truth behind the mission. With every new danger, Chance's dark history will also unravel. Does anyone know who Christopher Chance really is, or what secrets lay buried in his past? What would make a man willingly become a HUMAN TARGET?

PAST LIFE

Have you ever experienced dj vu or met someone you thought seemed familiar? Do you believe in karma, fate or love at first sight? From writer David Hudgins ("Friday Night Lights"), and inspired by the book "The Reincarnationist" by M.J. Rose, comes PAST LIFE, a new drama series about an unlikely pair of past-life detectives who investigate whether what is happening to you today is the result of who you were before. DR. KATE MCGINN (Kelli Giddish, "All My Children") is not your typical psychologist. Confident, outspoken and highly educated, she works at The Talmadge Center for Behavioral Health in New York City, a world-renowned institute dedicated to the study of the science of the soul. After experiencing a past-life regression in her 20s, Kate became a believer in reincarnation. Using regression therapy and her natural gift for reading people, Kate helps solve the mysteries of her troubled clients who suffer from present-day problems caused by past-life traumas. She believes there are levels of consciousness and explanations for human behavior that science can't begin to explain. Accustomed to skeptics, but not bothered by them, Kate is an unapologetic believer and a force of nature who marches to the beat of her own drummer. Her partner, PRICE WHATLEY (Nicholas Bishop, "Home and Away"), is a different story. A former NYPD homicide detective, pragmatic and cynical, Price is a damaged soul who constantly battles grief and guilt over the accidental death of his wife. Price feels that Kate, though not certifiable, certainly operates on the fringes of science. It's a volatile relationship, but with Price's solid detective skills, and Kate's penchant for out-of-the-box thinking, together they make a formidable, if somewhat dysfunctional, team. A fast-paced emotional thrill ride, each episode finds Price and Kate working with their colleagues to unravel a new mystery involving the past-lives of their clients. DR. MALACHI TALMADGE (Richard Schiff, "The West Wing") is Kate's mentor and the center's namesake, an avuncular but gruff elder statesman who is a legend in the field of cognitive research. DR. RISHI KARNA (Ravi Patel, "Scrubs") is the rookie of the group, a baby-faced therapist from Calcutta who loves bad American TV, Cuban jazz and driving everyone crazy.

PRODUCTION COMPANIES: Bonanza Productions Inc., Warner Bros. Television

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: David Hudgins, Lou Pitt

DIRECTOR: Deran Sarafian

WRITER: David Hudgins

CAST: Kelli Giddish as Dr. Kate McGinn, Nicholas Bishop as Price Whatley, Richard Schiff as Dr. Malachi Talmadge, Ravi Patel as Dr. Rishi Karna

The following new comedy is slated for a midseason launch:

SONS OF TUCSON

In the tradition of "Malcolm in the Middle" and "The Bernie Mac Show," SONS OF TUCSON is a family comedy about three brothers who hire a charming, wayward schemer to stand in as their father when their real one goes to prison. What begins as a business relationship evolves into something more complex and compelling: a family unlike any we've ever seen. The three brothers find their dad-for-hire, RON SNUFFKIN (Tyler Labine, "Reaper"), at the local sporting good store. Ron will be forced to draw on a wide array of skills and a vast bag of tricks as he steps into the patriarch role to take care of the boys of the Gunderson family. ROBBY GUNDERSON (Davis Cleveland, "How I Met Your Mother"), 8, is a loose cannon who doesn't respond well to authority; GARY GUNDERSON (Frank Dolce, "Doubt"), 11, is a bright and street-savvy leader who is every bit the con man his father is; and BRANDON GUNDERSON (Troy Gentile, "Entourage"), 13, is a gentle free spirit who simply goes along for the ride. MAGGIE MORALES (Natalie Martinez, "Saints & Sinners"), Robby's second-grade teacher and the object of Ron's affection, might just be the only stable figure in the lives of this quirky quartet. While SONS OF TUCSON is grounded in the day-to-day challenges of a single-parent home, nothing in the Gunderson household is quite what it seems. An ongoing chess match between Ron and the boys will keep both parties on their toes, as neither side can afford to give up too much power or independence.

PRODUCTION COMPANY: 20th Century Fox Television

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Justin Berfield, Jason Felts, Harvey Myman, Todd Holland

DIRECTOR: Todd Holland

WRITERS: Tommy Dewey, Greg Bratman

CAST: Tyler Labine as Ron Snuffkin, Davis Cleveland as Robby Gunderson, Frank Dolce as Gary Gunderson, Troy Gentile as Brandon Gunderson, Natalie Martinez as Maggie Morales

Hey Pavan,

Some things in the schedule on the blog do not match the schedule in the press release. "Brothers" is at 8pm on Fridays, and not on Sundays at all.

That was an error when the blog first posted (that's what happens when you get different schedules). Try refreshing. I'll be editing in tidbits all day below the schedule, including news from their upfront presentation at 4pm ET.

Friday is absolutely horrific. Why didn't they just cancel Dollhouse? and why is 'Til Death still around? and why is one of their only two live-action sitcoms buried on Fridays with said shows? Terrible.

Lie to Me and Fringe in the two toughest timeslots of the week, poor FOX. So You Think You Can Dance is two hours AND will face DWTS? LOL! Sunday looks solid, Wednesday looks good but if Dance/Glee bomb it goes up in flames.

Overall, this is a horrible schedule, even worse than I expected.

FOX could be in trouble for the fall (isn't like that hasn't happened before). So You Think You Can Dance will be hit or miss, and if it's a miss then they will be really screwed up on Tue and Wed.

I can see Mon/Thu doing OK. Friday's sitcoms are a little odd. Why didn't FOX just burn off 'Til Death this summer and next? More than likely the will remove it after a few weeks of bad ratings.

Sunday's will do fine, they usually do, plus Cleveland is the only new thing and since it's similar to FG and AD, I'm sure it will be fine.

Sons of Tucson and The Cleveland Show sound pretty good. I'll be checking them out. I guess I'll be watching the whole Sunday 8pm-10pm block and 7:30pm-10pm in Midseason. I wonder if this is Fox's way of killing off American Dad by putting it in the spot Futurama was once in.

Edit: Pavan, are all the other shows that aren't on the schedule cancelled? like 5th Grader and Lyrcis.

I'm happy to see 'Til Death on the Fall schedule. I knew it was coming back, but I really wasn't expecting it that soon (seeing as they haven't even finished airing the current season).

Of course in typical Sitcoms Online fashion, everyone is upset that the show is back. But with a timeslot of Friday, they shouldn't try to expect good ratings. They simply are just burning it off. Who watches TV on Friday nights anymore? Or so it seems not enough people do because Friday ratings seem to always be in the dumper. I'm a little surprised that the low-rated Dollhouse is returning to the same night it did horrible in. I guess with that show, they're riding the wave of it's popularity online (and probably DVD and Blu-Ray sales) instead of Nielson ratings.

Not sure if they ordered 5th Grader or Lyrics. Kitchen Nightmares is the only one not on the schedule, but has an additional season right now.

I absolutely cannot believe they replaced Sarah Connor with 'Til Death. I thought that horrible show was sent to the graveyard where it belongs (well, on Friday, it kind of is, but still, WTF?). The justification given by Fox for Dollhouse's renewal was that it had a "steady" audience on Friday nights, good DVR ratings and yada, yada, yada... all bullcrap. Pure, unadulterated, crap. They renewed it 'cause it could be made cheaper than what it was made for in its first season... um, excuse me, but that's an absolutely STUPID reason to renew a show. You don't renew a show that gets horrible ratings just because it can be made for a few million dollars less than what it was originally made for. Dollhouse's ratings DECREASED from viewing to viewing whereas Terminator actually saw INCREASED ratings as the storylines shifted slowly but surely away from Sarah's delusions and back into the John Henry/development of Skynet storylines that made the show MOVE in its heyday. I loved The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but I always hated the network it aired on and even some of the creative decisions the show's creators themselves made at the most crucial times (aka Josh Friedman's dropping the ball after the winter hiatus with the 3-episode-long Sarah Connor 3 dots storyline that scared away any potential Friday night tuners-in). If it would've got renewed for a third season, I would be ecstatic... but the fact of the matter is, it never TRULY had a shot on Fox. Never. Fox sucks, and they just don't air their GOOD shows anymore than 2 seasons. So... good luck 'Til Death (and to Fox in the fall, because they just lost one viewer for sure).

What is FOX thinking? Are they this naive to the scheduling process? From this schedule, seems to me like they have no clue what's going on.

For one, the entire schedule is completely messed up. They're screwing most of their shows on this schedule. Mondays are the only night that isn't too bad. Having SYTYD is messing up everything - it's taking up an entire night. It's going to be even worse than Idol, and it can't even managed 10 million viewers - in the summer. What are they thinking?

Fringe Thursdays at 9pm?

And Fridays - what a total mess that is. I don't see why Dollhouse was brought back at all. And having Brothers paired with Til Death makes much less sense. It should have been Dollhouse 8pm/Kitchen Nightmares 9pm for Fridays.

I'd be mad if FOX didn't order more 5th Grader or Lyrics. Both are moderately strong performers on them. They completely ruined them by moving to Fridays this season, but even there they did well. And no Hell's Kitchen in midseason? What is going on here? Is this a joke????

I hope ABC and CBS have better schedules than this. This is NBC'ish. A summer reality show gets 2 hours on Tuesday and one on Wednesday. Fringe gets moved to Thursday and the only new drama is Glee. At least they're showing it tomorrow. If it isn't any good than I don't have to worry about trying it out this fall.

If House was still the powerhouse it was, I'd say Lie to Me was in a good position to inherit a sizeable audience for itself. But House is on the decline...

I don't understand the logic of SYTYCD being placed on the fall schedule--it has never proven itself a big summer breakout hit (like Idol or Survivor did in the past). Heck, Fox why didn't you just come up with a new version of Skating with Celebrities?

There isn't none. Maybe Pavan can explain - you said Reilly said why Dance is on the schedule, but you didn't tell us why.

They'd be better off getting in Past Life in the fall, and getting in another season of Hell's Kitchen for midseason. When airing in the summer, HK and Dance get around the same ratings. But, HK's demo is usually higher. HK has proven it can do good (especially demos) airing in one of the toughest timeslots, but I don't think Dance will be that lucky.

I am extremely disappointed with this dumb schedule. Dance will be facing DWTS and Biggest Loser. ohno: Something it doesn't do in the summer(when it only does decent).

I can't believe there's only 2 new shows on the schedule in the fall(when FOX is at it's worst), and one will be DOA(Brothers) with the other a complete wildcard. The promos for Glee look awesome to me, but we all know how well musical shows have done in the past(Viva Laughlin the most notable and the list is even longer). Plus the whole "air one episode then wait 4 months". I don't understand the Friday lineup AT ALL. Should have just killed Dollhouse and been done with it.

I hope the other nets' schedules aren't this bad, because we could be in store for a terrible season.

Yeah, Dance will fail against the more popular DWTS and Biggest Loser. The worst thing - they all have similar audiences. If anything, Wednesday/Thursday would have been better for the show. With this schedule, FOX is looking dumber than NBC right now.

I'm looking forward to Glee. Since Idol will no doubt run over, I'll have to watch it and DVR The Mentalist finale. The promos do look entertaining. My guess is the Friday comedy hour will be the first to go. Brothers is definitely DOA airing with Til Death and Dollhouse, and on Friday in general. And as always, I'm sure the midseason schedule will be almost entirely different from what it is right now.

It says so in the official release, repeats of the animated comedies.

Dance is on the schedule to try and have a more balanced scheduled and a direct timeslot holder for American Idol. Previously, Fox had to move stuff around to make room for Idol.

I think I said this already, there will be another season of Hell's Kitchen after this upcoming cycle from July-Oct. It's just not scheduled yet.

You did, but I was just using my logics. While bringing in Dance may sound logical for that reason, I just don't see it working out for them. It's just taking up more room for other shows, including their new dramas, which could be airing instead.

Fox is simply stupid (I would use another word but then I'd probably be banned from SO  ). They don't know how to retain good shows (like the recently canceled Sarah Connor Chronicles), don't know how to find audiences for the aforementioned shows, and put all of their time, energy and focus onto promoting the stupid shows like 'Til Death and the shows that don't need promoting in the first place (OK, we get it, American Idol airs on your network! Promote an unknown show like Sarah Connor or last year's underdog Back to You and understand the fact that Idol doesn't need promotion--- it'll always have a HUGE audience!). In the end, they just want to keep on the same old stupid, drawn out, played out shows that nobody really cares about anymore. That's why Fox, as a network, has gotten worse over the years. Viewership is good for shows like 24 and Lie to Me, but I guarantee you more people are tuned into NBC and CBS every night...

I do have to hand it to Fox on Glee, that was a pretty awesome pilot especially for a show that's about a glee club--- but in true Fox fashion, that show will probably eventually be axed for more 'Til Death or a new comedy starring a sports superstar who can't act to save his life.

What fools these mortals be.

Glee bombed. Less than 50% retention out of Idol and fell big time at the half. I actually liked the show but it had some problems to me and I did see it as kind of a limited premise.

Well there just went FOX Fall.

FOX -- GLEE -- 7.1/11 HH, 5.0/13 A18-49, 12.518 million viewers
FOX -- GLEE -- 5.2/8 HH, 3.7/9 A18-49, 8.971 million viewers

I think it has room to grow. I wouldn't call it a bomb - it's average was somewhere around 9.7 million in finals I believe, and a 3.9 demo? That's about the same thing Fringe was getting after Idol.

Wow. Is this the best FOX can do? I'll be watching "Glee" and "Dollhouse" in the fall. "The Wanda Sykes Show" will probably grab my attention too. I think she's hilarious. I'll check out American Idol in January, but I've become so bored with it, I'll probably just fast-forward through the whole season, like I did this year...if I feel up to it.

And it's a shame King of The Hill is gone.

Fox will premiere the bulk of its schedule prior to the official start of the 2009-10 season, including new musical comedy "Glee" and cult drama "Dollhouse."

In addition, the network has set Saturday, Nov. 7 as the premiere date for its new weekly late night series, "The Wanda Sykes Show."

As for primetime, Fox will roll out four nights of programming between Sept. 12 and Sept. 18, allowing it to get much of its lineup in place before Nielsen begins officially keeping tabs on seasonal ratings Sept. 21. Fox has gotten a head start on its premieres in past years as well, so the strategy isn't a surprise.

While Saturday unscripted shows "Cops" and "America's Most Wanted" will debut new episodes Sept. 12, Fox's first big premiere night is Wednesday, Sept. 16. That's when "Glee" has its official series premiere.

"Glee," which had a successful sneak preview last month, will air at 9 p.m., behind the fall season premiere of "So You Think You Can Dance."

The next night, Sept. 17, Fox's new Thursday lineup premieres, with "Bones" at 8 and sophomore thriller "Fringe" at 9.

Fox's quasi-premiere week wraps Sept. 18 with the second season debut of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" at 9. New comedy "Brothers" and returning half-hour "'Til Death" air at 8 and 8:30 p.m., respectively.

The network kicks off the official premiere week Monday, Sept. 21 with a two-hour episode of "House." Sophomore drama "Lie to Me" moves into its new 9 p.m. Monday slot on Sept. 28.

"Hell's Kitchen" will still be in original episodes on Tuesdays come fall, and it will serve as a lead-in to the Tuesday edition of "Dance" starting Sept. 29.

Fox's final premieres will be its Sunday animated shows, which this year return on Sept. 27. In addition to "The Simpsons," "Family Guy" and "American Dad," the block will now include "The Cleveland Show" at 8:30 p.m.

Question Pavan: I was watching Dont Forget the Lyrics on Friday, and I noticed they mentioned twice during commercials that they were looking for new contestants for the show's upcoming season.

So, does this mean it hasn't been cancelled? Presumably both this and 5th Grader were cancelled, but maybe not afterall. Both would still work as filler/summer shows . . . I didn't really see why they cancelled them in the first place.

Pavan

I don't think they are coming back. These were taped a long time ago. 5th Grader will be in first-run syndication this fall.

The Simpsons will start their 21st season, not the 20th, this fall.

On February 26, 2009, Fox announced that it had renewed the show and ordered two additional seasons, which would take the series through its twenty-second season.

January starts off on a high note when the ninth season of AMERICAN IDOL, television's No. 1 series, begins with a two-night premiere Tuesday, Jan. 12 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Wednesday, Jan. 13 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). Immediately following AMERICAN IDOL on Jan. 13 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), FOX unveils the not-to-be-missed series debut of OUR LITTLE GENIUS, a new unscripted series that features America's most gifted kids as they are tested with some of the most challenging and difficult questions that only a remarkable little genius could answer.

A special extended primetime event on Sunday, Jan. 17 kicks off with the NFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF (4:00 PM-CC ET live/1:00 PM-CC PT live), which leads into the explosive series preview of HUMAN TARGET (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), the new full-throttle, action-packed drama about a unique private contractor (Mark Valley) who will stop at nothing even if it means becoming a human target to save his clients. The special primetime event concludes with the first installment of the pulse-pounding two-night, four-hour premiere of 24 (9:00-11:00 PM ET/PT). The season premiere of 24 clocks in for two more hours of action Monday, Jan. 18 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and the season premiere of HUMAN TARGET airs Wednesday, Jan. 20 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) following AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

On Sunday, Jan. 10, FOX presents a special SIMPSONS event beginning with the animated series' milestone 450th episode, "Once Upon a Time in Springfield" (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), in which BART (Nancy Cartwright) and MILHOUSE (Pamela Hayden) try to help KRUSTY (Dan Castellaneta) regain his popularity after network executives force him to restructure the format of his television show by hiring a female sidekick, PRINCESS PENELOPE (guest voice Anne Hathaway). Then, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock ("Super Size Me," "30 Days") will present The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: in 3-D! on Ice! (8:30-9:30 PM ET/PT). The documentary special examines the global phenomenon that is THE SIMPSONS and serves as the momentous conclusion to the "Best. 20 Years. Ever.," a year-long global celebration of THE SIMPSONS that launched in January 2009.

Chef Gordon Ramsay steps out of his own kitchen to serve up a new season of KITCHEN NIGHTMARES on Friday, Jan. 29 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Each week, Chef Ramsay will try to help turn around some of the most unsanitary and unsuccessful restaurants in New York, New Jersey, Florida and California on the verge of closing their doors forever.

PAST LIFE, a new drama series inspired by the book "The Reincarnationist" about detectives who investigate the world of the unexplained, will bow with a two-hour series premiere Thursday, Feb. 11 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and will make its time period premiere Thursday, Feb. 18 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

SONS OF TUCSON, the new family comedy from Emmy Award winner Todd Holland ("Wonderfalls") about three young brothers who hire a charming, wayward schemer to stand in as their father when their real one goes to prison, debuts Sunday, March 14 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT).

AMERICAN IDOL sings on Tuesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) when it makes its time period premiere Jan. 19 followed by the time period premiere of OUR LITTLE GENIUS (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and 24 syncs up for its time period premiere Monday, Jan. 25 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

After its fall finale Wednesday, Dec. 9 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), GLEE returns from its interlude with a score of all-new episodes on a new night beginning Tuesday, April 13 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). FRINGE delves into its winter finale Thursday, Feb. 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and then resurfaces with new cases beginning Thursday, April 1 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Joss Whedon's DOLLHOUSE goes out with a bang with its series finale Friday, Jan. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

I've said this enough over the web already, so I'll keep it short - this jumbled mess they call a schedule is going to be one walking disaster. They're already drawing the line thin with Idol - it doesn't do best at 8pm, as we've seen before. Keeping it there the entire season will surely cause ratings decay. And, creatively, I have a feeling this could be the worst season yet. With no Paula, I can't see viewers sticking around. It just won't be the same.

With that, the only solid night of the week is Mondays, and with 2 aging hits anchoring it, that isn't saying much. Airing a cheap, unoriginal gameshow Tuesdays at 9pm is one thing, but doing so in place of Glee? Glee, the show that's full of potential already with a solid fanbase that could have turned into a megahit for the network, will be on a 4 month hiatus, and will be airing its final episodes well into the summer. Past Life/Fringe on Thursdays is a disaster waiting to happen, while Lie to Me, ordered for a full season, is nowhere to be seen. Kitchen Nightmares - very good scheduling move on Fridays. Wasting an hour on House reruns? Not so much.

It's a schedule like this that makes Kevin Reilly look just as much of an idiot as Jeff Zucker. You have to wonder what the hell he's thinking sometimes.

Glee not coming back til April? WTF? Is FOX trying to kill the show?

Well this schedule sucks. Networks think people are just going to sit and wait for their show to come back from a 4 month hiatus. And I thought the 2 month wait until the next Supernatural was long...

What kills me is that because of shows like Glee, FOX is going to win November Sweeps this year for the first time in the network's history. And they reward it by benching it to April, making its final episodes of the season run into the summer? I swear, Kevin Reilly has no idea how to run a network.

I didn't even expect to like the show but I do. I don't watch it live and I still have a few episodes on DVR to catch up on but it's very addicting. With 24 and House nearing the end, Fox needs new shows to replace them. They are taking a chance by taking Glee off the air until April. It sort of reminds me of what they did to Prison Break the last few years.

The sad thing is, Glee will be returning up against the final episodes of Lost, as well as The Biggest Loser and NCIS:LA. It's already a solid player for the network, but airing after Idol the entire season, it could have had a chance to become even bigger. I'm with you - I didn't expect to enjoy the show either, but I absolutely love it now. Very sad to see it off the air for 4 months.

Lie to Me will return in late spring. It has been ordered for a full season. It'll be on a new night when it returns...my guess is Wednesdays at 9 following the run of Human Target. See today's blog: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2009/11/fox-midseason-2010-schedule-donna-reed.html

HOT FROM FOX...

"OUR LITTLE GENIUS" WILL NOT AIR ON FOX AS PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED

"Our Little Genius" will not premiere Wednesday, Jan. 13, as previously announced.

Below are statements released today by Mark Burnett and Fox Broadcasting Company.

STATEMENT FROM MARK BURNETT

"I recently discovered that there was an issue with how some information was relayed to contestants during the pre-production of 'Our Little Genius.' As a result, I am not comfortable delivering the episodes without re-shooting them. I believe my series must always be beyond reproach, so I have requested that FOX not air these episodes."

STATEMENT FROM FOX BROADCASTING COMPANY

"Mark Burnett is one of the pre-eminent producers of unscripted programming on television. Even though we were incredibly pleased with the quality of 'Our Little Genius,' we respect and appreciate his due diligence and the decision to pull these episodes. We agree there can be no question about the integrity of our shows. While these episodes will not air, the families who participated in the show will receive their winnings, and we are grateful for their participation."

In lieu of the previously scheduled episodes, FOX will air an encore of the milestone 450th episode of THE SIMPSONS on Wednesday, Jan. 13 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) following a special extended episode of AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:30 PM ET/PT). On Tuesday, Jan. 19, FOX will air an encore of the pilot episode of the new action-drama series HUMAN TARGET (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) following AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

Further scheduling information will be announced soon.

American Idol on Tuesday, Jan. 13 will now run 90 minutes, rather than 75 minutes as previously announced.

Wow, wasting their most valuable lead-in on a repeat? FOX needs to get on the ball and bring back Lie to Me ASAP. Meanwhile, they need to do some further retinkering. Human Target should premiere on the 19th at 9pm, with episode 2 airing in its regular timeslot on the 20th. After that, Lie to Me can resume the Tuesday 9pm slot. Our Little Genius at this point should be saved for the fall.

GORDON RAMSAY SERVES UP SEVENTH COURSE OF "HELL'S KITCHEN" BEGINNING THURSDAY, JUNE 10

FOX's summer is scorching hot with the series preview and premiere of THE GOOD GUYS (previously announced as CODE 58), the kick-off of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE's seventh season, the summer premiere of LIE TO ME, the seventh course of culinary competition HELL'S KITCHEN, all-new installments of mysterious drama PAST LIFE plus all-new episodes of GLEE, COPS, AMERICA'S MOST WANTED and ANIMATION DOMINATION.

THE GOOD GUYS, the new action-comedy from Matt Nix ("Burn Notice"), will have a special preview Wednesday, May 19 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) before AMERICAN IDOL and will then make its series premiere Monday, June 7 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The series is an action-packed and comedic look at what happens when a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford, "The West Wing") and a by-the-book, modern-day detective (Colin Hanks, "Mad Men") try to expose the big picture of small crime.

As previously announced, television's hottest dance series, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, swings into summer with a two-hour premiere Thursday, May 27 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Hosted by Cat Deeley, the hit dance competition series will inspire and amaze viewers as dancers skilled in styles ranging from hip-hop to ballroom compete to be named America's Favorite Dancer. Once the DANCE auditions conclude, weekly performance shows will air Tuesdays (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and weekly results shows will air Wednesdays (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed).

Superstar chef Gordon Ramsay cranks up the ovens in HELL'S KITCHEN when the series returns for its seventh season with a tantalizing two-hour premiere Thursday, June 10 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The cutthroat culinary competition will continue with two-hour episodes throughout the season airing Thursdays (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) as Chef Ramsay narrows down the field of aspiring restauranteurs until only one remains standing in HELL'S KITCHEN.

LIE TO ME continues its search for the truth when all-new episodes return to the schedule Mondays starting with its time period premiere on June 7 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). Mysterious drama PAST LIFE continues with a handful of original episodes beginning with a two-hour premiere Friday, May 28 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and its time period premiere Friday, June 4 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

GLEE, the most-celebrated new show of the season, finishes its run of all-new episodes on Tuesdays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) with its first season finale June 8. In addition, viewers can catch encore airings of all their favorite GLEE episodes Wednesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) beginning June 16.

The most arresting night of television continues this summer on Saturdays with a mixture of all-new and encore episodes of COPS (8:00-8:30 and 8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) and all-new episodes AMERICA'S MOST WANTED (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), while Sunday nights feature a mix of encores and originals of THE SIMPSONS, THE CLEVELAND SHOW, FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD, TIL DEATH and new comedy SONS OF TUCSON (7:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

Personally, I think it's a mistake making Hell's Kitchen 2-hours. 2 hours every week is going to be a bit over an overkill for this show. It's good and all, one of my favorite reality competition series, but one hour a week is plenty. And, FOX should have kept it on Tuesdays, with SYTYCD airing Wednesday/Thursday.

Nice to see Past Life back, even if it is on Fridays for just 3 weeks. Where did The Good Guys come from? Never heard of it before, but I'm glad to see FOX sticking with a nice mix of reality/scripted/repeats. Really strong summer lineup for sure.

At least FOX isn't using one season in the Winter and one season in the Summer this year. I thought that was overkill, so I think I can live with 2 hours every week. :)

FOX has finally skedded its 'Red Dead Redemption' animated special that originally had been skedded for May 15th, slotting it in the Saturday midnight Animation Domination timeslot occuped by the burn-off of 'Sit Down, Shut Up' and an encore run of the sitcom 'Brothers'.

The special is directed by Mr. John Hillcoat, and it's based on the gameworld of RED DEAD REDEMPTION, which arrives in stores May 18th.

Perhaps this unusual special is a harbinger that FOX might use the Saturday 11:00 pm - 12:30 am timeslot to air some other unconventional programming in replacement of the cancelled 'The Wanda Sykes Show' and 'Brothers' over the summer months. Perhaps even a few of those busted drama and comedy pilots might finally see the air.
