LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – The creator of the Jay Mohr comedy "Gary Unmarried" has left the show as CBS decides whether to renew the middling performer for a second season.
Ed Yeager and fellow executive producer Ric Swartzlander cited the traditional "creative differences" boilerplate for their departure.
Mohr stars as a recently single painting contractor who shares custody of his children with his controlling ex-wife (Paula Marshall).
After a promising start, its ratings leveled off, with the show pulling respectable numbers in the 8:30 p.m. Wednesday time slot following "The New Adventures of Old Christine." The first-season finale airs May 20.
There was speculation that two writer-producers on the show -- Ira Ungerleider and Rob Des Hotel -- would be elevated to run "Unmarried," and the series would then be renewed.
