View Full Version : TVLand
Is it just me, or does it seem that TVLand is slowly becoming a Sitcom channel? They show they're dramas in the wee hours of the morning, it seems they are slowly trying to ween them out. Any thoughts?

It's just the current trend, that's all... Marketing Research shows that people's atention spans are getting shorter and shorter. hour long shows just don't cut it any more! This past year, there was some experimentation with half-hour action shows ("Jack of All Trades" and "Cleopatra 2525"), but they didn't succeed.
Basically, unless it has Regis or a Survivor on it, the hour-long program is a dead property right now.

In response to the statement that people don't want to watch an hour long show unless it's Regis or Survivor, one has to ask, "How do you explain the ratings of CSI, Third Watch, NYPD Blue, The District and so on."
While I agree that studies show that people prefer 30 minutes shows, I don't think that's the main force driving TVLAND's schedule.
Most of the new shows airing now (or soon) on TVLAND aired previously on Nick-at-Nite (Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Odd Couple, Get Smart). Perhaps they hope to attract a younger crowd with programs like Facts, Strokes, and Brady on NaN. I can't explain what TVLAND program schedulers are thinking. A year or so ago, it seemed like TVLAND's schedule never changed. Now it seems like that can't stop playing with it. The programs showcased on the Fandemonium are also confusing. They have already aired or scheduled a second Hogan's Heroes and Barney Miller weekend. Why not go through their entire library first?
With digital cable comes a need for more cable networks. There must be at least 5 Discovery Channels now. Maybe it's time for a TVLAND sitcoms channal and a TVLAND drama channel.

I thought TVLand WAS a sitcom channel since it is like a "spinoff" of Nick @ Nite, which never shows dramas.
I dont like the shows survivor and friends, this is why i didnt capatalize the titles.

that's not tru look at shows like, ER, felicity, once and again, nypd blue and Providence they are all hour long shows that are doing quite good in the ratings.. ER is the highest rated show on television, Nypd blue is constantly in the top ten, and Providence has never scored lower than the top twenty, once and again was the highest rated new show last season.. and felicity is one of the higher rater wb shows.
