Candice Bergen won’t star in CBS's Big D, an upcoming comedy pilot about an East Coast transplant who spars with her Texan mother-in-law. And according to The USA Today, it’s because of money. Though there was mutual interest between the parties, CBS passed on the five-time Emmy winner’s financial demands and cast Tony-winning actress Deanna Dunagan (August: Osage County) instead, for a lower price.
The move is indicative of an overall tightening of the belt at CBS, and other networks. “What [the recession is] forcing us to do is look at how to produce even more efficiently than we had in the past," said CBS Paramount studio chief David Stapf. "We can't just throw money at things."
