One of my cousins recently started a family tree network for my family on geni.com. Geni is a like a social networking site for families. People can fill out profiles on themselves. Profiles are only viewable to people that related to you or close friends who request friendship status on the site. The network tree that I'm apart of is on my mom's side of the family. My mom has a niece that is difficult to be around and can be pretentious. She has two sons from a relationship she had with a man that lasted about nine years. She was never married to the man and he broke up with her shortly after the younger child was born. Well on the site she is claiming she is married to him and she made a profile for him without his knowledge. All my relatives know that a marriage never took place. My cousin was almost jailed for fraud charges years ago for using her ex boyfriend's last name. Even though she made a profile for him on a extremely private social networking site and there is a chance he may never know about it. I think it was wrong of her lie about their relationship. Does anyone agree that it is plain wrong to lie about a relationship status on a website?

Yeah I agree, that is not fair to him.

I know of another type situation that is sort of the opposite. Someone in the family was married to someone else for a long time I think over 10 years. They had kids together but on the family tree they don't want their X or the children from that marriage to be included in the tree. I kind of understand cause the marriage ended very badly but that is still no reason to keep them out of the family tree IMO. :(

I agree that is no reason to keep their children off the tree.

I was talking to one of my other cousins today and he said the same thing. My cousin's relationship with the father of her kids ended 19 years ago. But on the site she makes it seem as if there are currently married to each other.
