We've all had teachers who were special - who touched us - and who we'll remember to the day we die. Pete Dixon is a good example of such a teacher.

I was blessed to have many incredibly great teachers in High School. But the best of them all was my chemistry teacher Mr. Gorzka. He was tough but kind and knew how to motivate you. He made you want to do your best - and I was amazed at what I achieved in his course. I was in High School over 35 yrs ago but I still remember him vividly.

So....who was your special teacher?

Mrs. Teske - 7th grade reading, Mrs. Petrigac - 7th/8th grade English, and Mr. Whapham, 11th grade English. :D

Ms Devane....7th grade English. She made the class fun which is why I loved it. It was the only good thing about 7th grade for me.

Mr. Hansard in 9th grade Algebra, he was so patient in explaining how to work out the problems.

Unfortunately none of my high school teachers were like Pete Dixon. Most of 'em were really bad, and I'm glad they're out of my life.

My junior high school geography teacher, Mrs. Conner (not her real name), was the closest thing to Pete Dixon. She didn't have Pete's sense of "cool" -- in fact, she was sort of intense and manic -- but she had a great relationship with all of the students. She was friendly, nurturing, and authoritative all at the same time! I'm very glad that she was in my life, if only for a very short time. I still miss her, 35 years later. Thanks, Mrs. C.!

Two teachers stand out in my memory. Mrs. Backosti who was my teacher in both grade 4 and grade 6. She used to read to us in class and instilled in me a love of reading and literature that is still part of my life today. And my grade 12 History teacher Mr. Shewin. He was the first teacher I had who was also a friend and made me feel like a person not just a student.
