Quintuplets Born At Phoenix Hospital
Babies Likely To Remain Hospitalized Another 10 Weeks

Posted: Saturday, March 21, 2009

Phoenix -- A Tucson couple is making room for some new additions to the family as they celebrate a set of quintuplets.

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center spokesman Craig Fischer said Lorena Puig gave birth Wednesday at a Phoenix hospital to three girls and two boys, who were born within four minutes of each other.

The 29-week-old babies range in weight from 2 pounds, 1.7 ounces to 2 pounds, 8 ounces.

Phoenix Children's Hospital officials said the quintuplets will likely remain hospitalized for another 10 weeks.

^ Had to be using fertility drugs.

Used to be a time when multiple births were so very rare - now I feel like we're living a dog's life and everyone's having litters now! Hospitals will be setting up cardboard boxes with old towels in them rather than birthing rooms. ;)

How nice for them. I'm glad the babies were all born healthy, although under two pounds is very small. My granddaughter was born weighing two pounds, and I know what she went through. She spent almost six months in the hospital. Today, she's a normal sized, intelligent 12-year old.

Maybe this is the couple's first pregnancy and maybe the accidentally overused fertility drugs. I doubt they wanted a multiple birth. I'm glad the babies are doing ok and wish the family much luck in the future.

aaahhh....what happened to the good old days when people just accidently overdosed on acid....at least most of the time, taxpayers didn't end up taking the brunt of it! ;)

I'm glad they're o.k. too, but all I can picture are future labour rooms that look like the one Jimmy Kimmel portrayed  You'll need to walk the halls with helmuts and catchers' mitts on.
