I have headaches often, and have had a bad one all day, and so far nothing I've tried has helped. I drank caffeine, (which usually helps), took a couple Ibuprofens, went for a walk and got some fresh air, and even rubbed my temples for about 15 minutes, and none of that even helped a bit. Do you guys have any remedies that work for you in regards to getting rid of headaches? I think the fact that I haven't been able to sleep for over 30 hours is probably a contributing factor to the problem, but I just can't sleep. I end up laying there for hours wide awake. Anyway, any suggestions you might have for me would be appreciated. Thanks!!

If you're having them often then I suggest seeing a Dr. ASAP. Headaches, especially frequent ones can be a sign of something more serious. If you feel that seeing a Dr. isn't necessary then I suggest getting a bottle of oil of peppermint from the health food store. Dab some on pain area with a cottonball and you should see results soon. Works for me.

Thank you so much for the advice Zoneboy, it is very much appreciated. I actually use to take migraine medication, but went off of it after the episodes started lessening. I've noticed though that my headaches have been getting more severe again, and more frequent, so I will definitely mention that to my doctor during my next appointment. I will also give the oil of peppermint thing a try if this lasts much longer, or the next time I have a bad headache. Thanks again!! :)

by the way be sure prior to using anything from health food stores so that it does not counteract with any meds that you may be on now

It's good that you brought that up, because I'm on quite a few medications. I'll be sure to look things up before trying anything like that. Thanks again, this advice really helps.

Do you really think that a Dr. is going to recommend any remedy from a health food store? In fact, Those that do believe in and use them in their practices are subject to gun-drawn raids ordered by the FDA. If he were to call his Dr. about the oil of peppermint, The Dr. will most-likely say that he's never heard of it and can't recommend it. Here are a few testimonials from those that swear by it.

I get headaches a lot, too. And at least once a month, I'll get a REALLY bad one. It is possible it's a side effect of medication. I'm on medication, too, and I think that could be one of the problems as to why I get so many headaches. I have for years. As for remedies, I wish I had advice because I have the same problem you do.

From a purely spiritual basis positive affirmations could help. (I really don't know what to suggest medical-wise.) I know when feeling ill that it's not easy to make yourself believe that you're feeling okay but a focus on and belief in good health could be of some help.

Stop hitting yourself with that hammer and your head will stop hurting. :bash: :wallbang :horse: :2help :whip ;)
Seriously, I hope you feel better. I find just relaxing in a dark, quiet room with a cup of tea helps.

This sometimes help me. When I have headaches and if I'm at home I lie down in a cool room for awhile to cool my body down and does help a lot of times. If you have an air conditioner or fan lay down in that room.

I'm sorry to hear that you suffer with this problem too!! :( It can get extremely frustrating, especially when it seems like you've tried everything, and nothing works. I would definitely try some of the methods mentioned in this thread, as they have helped me tremendously!! I truly hope your headache problem gets better Ashlee. If it gets too bad, be sure to tell your doctor, and he might be able to help you out. :)

That is actually a very good idea, and I have tried that, and it has definitely helped at times in the past. I'll usually go on you tube and find calming voices, or as you said, positive affirmations to calm me down. There's nothing like a soothing voice to make a person feel better. Thanks Sharop!!

 Yeah, I'll have to stop doing that. lol!
Seriously, thanks for the advice, I will definitely use it in the future. :)

It's funny that you mention that, because I actually did that last night after drinking my Chamomille tea. I take a hot shower the first thing every morning, and it always helps me to feel better, regardless of what kind of pain I'm experiencing. Thanks so much for bringing that up, and I hope other chronic headache sufferers will also take that advice.

It sure does, and I know this from experience!! As I said in another thread though, I haven't gotten any in a year, so unfortunately that won't help me anytime soon. I'll keep looking for the right girl though, and when I find her, you can be sure that I'll take your advice!!! ;)

Thanks for that advice!! The weather has been real cool here lately, and I have a fan right next to me, so I'll definitely keep that in mind. I finally got a full 8 hours of sleep, so thankfully my headache is finally gone, but just know everyone that your advice is so much appreciated, and I will use all of your methods. Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get headaches a lot also, especially after coming down from either an incredibly euphoric moment (i.e. winning an item on ebay that I've wanted since 2006) or a major crisis (i.e. having a major fight with my boss). The vast majority of the time they're migranes, though I also get really bad headaches when my neck "locks" and I can't turn it without being in serious pain - that's largely from osteoarthritis in my neck joint.
If I'm at work and one of these headaches strikes, I take the appropriate prescription medicine for it, then let my mind focus on whatever task I'm doing or just sit at the keyboard and play a game if it's down time. That gives the medicine a chance to work - when it finally takes hold, no more headache!

I'm really sorry to hear that you have to deal with so much pain Doodyville!! :( I know how bad neck pain can be, as I saw my mom go through it for years before finally having neck surgery. I'm glad to hear though that you're on meds for it, and that you have such good methods of dealing with the pain!! I wish you the best, and all the relief imagineable!! :)
