I saw this and wanted to know what you guys think..

I kinda agree with the police, I mean I don't think it's nice to have a sign like that when it goes to Abortion.

OKC man stopped for anti-Obama sign

Associated Press - February 19, 2009 12:15 PM ET

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A construction worker with an anti-President Obama sign in his pickup truck window was stopped by police who confiscated the homemade sign.

Chip Harrison of Oklahoma City had a sign reading 'Abort Obama, not the unborn' when he was stopped by two officers last week.

Harrison says an officer told him the sign could be considered a threat to the president and police notified the Secret Service.

The officers took the sign but later returned it to Harrison and police say the officers were "overzealous."

Special Agent in charge Adrian Andrews of the Secret Service's Oklahoma City field office says agents interviewed Harrison and determined he's not a threat.

Harrison says he's no fan of Obama but the sign is a political statement opposing abortion, not a threat to Obama.

He says the sign is back in his truck and that he's considering whether to pursue a civil matter against the police for what he considers a violation of his right to free speech.

Heck, we had "Death of a President " in 2006, a movie about the assassination of Bush 43 and its aftermath, we had the novel "Checkpoint", also about the assassination of Bush 43. We've had Bill Mahrer saying he's sorry that an assassination attempt on Dick Cheney failed.... on a show that had Barney Frank and Joe Scarborough as two of his guests... Frank certainly didn't disagree with him.

If there's one thing we've learned in the last 8 years, it's that it is perfectly OK to wish the President would die...and that the VP would drop dead as well.

And of course, the left really has no reason to get too upset about the sign, since they tell us that abortion is not actually murder.

I completely disagree with you. Openly wishing the President (any President) to be killed or assassinated, is treason--and the police, I feel did the right thing. Free speech is free speech, but inflammatory speech is wrong (acc. to former Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes).

A statement about abortion and not Obama? not a threat to Obama!? What could be plainer than the statement, 'Abort Obama' Even if Harrison didn't have that in mind, the sign could incite some nut job?

And by the way, this liberal (me) is pro-life.

Okay, saying 'Abort Obama' is a little far, even making movies about Bush dying is a little far too.

I agree with you in both instances. I was even offended when that Iraqi threw the shoes at President Bush; it's not right, no matter what.

Normally I would defend the guy's right to free speech, but there's just so many nuts out there that would take it at face value it's scary.

While I was never thrilled with Bush, I would have never wished for his death or murder. One would hope our civilization is past that, and it's one of the reasons that democracy is great - you can unload a leader and not have to kill them.

I actually don't read it as a threat to Obama's life, but just saying "get rid of" Obama. That said though, you never know how other people will take it and that's where the danger lies.

All this, and all the "Get rid of the shrub" variations when Bush was in office. I guess those don't count. The article states that the Abort Obama sign was returned, the cops deemed to be overzealous, and the guy not a threat. The sign's back in the guy's truck, and I hope he does sue and win.

Things like this have got to be taken seriously, regardless of who the President is. There are so many wackos out there, the authorities can't be too safe.

I wonder if the authorities paid the makers of that movie a visit, the one where Bush (an impersonator) is actually assassinated. If a sign in a construction worker's truck can give wackos ideas, imagine what a movie can do.

The authorities should have been concerned. I wonder why they weren't.

I think that it is a big difference between a movie, which is fiction, and real life. You never know what some whacko will do or try to do.

Good, I hope they reported his dumbass to the FBI. Abortion = murder to the right, therefore "abort obama" = "murder obama" for them.
